What The Olympics Will Bring To Karate is to shape the future of karatedo as a sport. Roman Empire caused the decline ofthe ancient olympic Games, narrow visions can lead karate into ruin. http://www.dragon-tsunami.org/Dtimes/Pages/articledt16.htm
Extractions: Our long and painful dispute with the International Traditional Karate Federation (ITKF) over the IOC recognition has finally been settled. Now it is time to make peace and work together to move karate-do forward into the 21st century. Participation in the Olympics will certainly transform karate. Our next mission is to make sure that karate maintains its honor, technical integrity and traditional values so that our ancient art will be accepted and respected as a constructive member within the greater family of sports. Karate is a sport cultivated by the Eastern culture and tradition, and has much to offer the youth of the world in building strong bodies, minds and spirits, as well as developing character, compassion and humanity. Joining the Olympic family means that karate accepts Olympism as its guiding philosophy. Such thought might upset some traditionalists. However, believe it or not, this had already occurred in the early 1900s. Let me explain
A Brief History Of Karate olympic sport. It is expected that traditional karate will also beadded as an olympic sport in the near future. During the 1970s http://www.success.org/MA/history.shtml
Extractions: T he story of the martial arts begins early in the 6th century with the visit of the Indian Prince Bodhidharma to the Shaolin Temple in northern China. Bodhidharma wanted to help the Shaolin monks find enlightenment. His message was that God came from within and not from outside. He suggested that the monks mediate in a sedentary position for many hours to find inner enlightenment. At first, the monks rejected the foreigner but Bodhidharma was determined. He went alone to a mountain cave where he remained for nine years meditating with a fervor so intent that his penetrating gaze burned two holes through the walls of the cave. Impressed with his will power and persistence, the monks accept Bodhidharma as their teacher and so began the practice of Zen Buddhism in China. However, there was one negative side effect to the long hours of meditation. Although the monks were becoming spiritually strong, they were becoming physically weak. To keep the monks healthy, Bodhidharma began to teach them a system, Chi Kung , which is based on Indian yoga.

It would be safe to say that the biggest boost to the popularization of karate in America came with the American military occupation of Japan after World War II; once American soldiers had assimilated the discipline, they returned with it to the States and began to disseminate it. Like most martial arts active in Japan, Karate made its transition to Karate-Do at the beginning of the 20th century. The Karate-Do does not, contrary to its Chinese relatives, include the use of weapons. Any weapons used are strictly within the Okinawan tradition

Extractions: Mr. Nauta is a 30 years old man from Belgium that developped a passion for martial arts more than a decade ago, after seing a demonstration at his University. It is that passion that made him discover the art of TaeKwonDo. He has trained under different masters belonging to different international federations and is here to discuss the finer points of TaeKwonDo Taekwondo is said to have origins in ancient Korean martial arts but in fact, taekwondo was 'founded' in 1957 and at that time it was merely the Korean version of Shotokan Karate. The reason for this is that Japan dominated Korea from 1910 until the end of WWII and during this period, Korean martial arts were forbidden. One of the founders of taekwondo (the late Gen. Choi) also had a black belt in Karate. After World War II, when Korea became independent, several kwans (schools) arose who decided to bundle forces and become one 'style' and hence 'taekwondo' was born. Taekwondo is heavily influenced by Karate. This is because Japan dominated Korea during 1910 until the end of World War II. During WWII, lots of Korean soldiers were trained in Japan. During this occupation of Korea, the Japanese tried to erase all traces of the Korean culture, including the martial arts. After World War II, when Korea became independent, several kwans arose. The Kwans united in 1955 as Tae Soo Do. In the beginning of 1957, the name Taekwondo was adopted by several Korean martial arts masters, for its similarity to the name Tae Kyon.

剛柔流 Abe Interview However, I believe that if karate becomes an olympic sport it will receivemore respect than any other type of karate competition, including K1. http://gojuryu.net/ryokiabe.htm
Extractions: Interview with Ryoki Abe Submit recommendations, inclusions or corrections here If you meet Ryoki Abe on the street, youll see a normal-looking man with a quiet, pleasant personality. If you meet him in the dojo, you will see an exceptionally skilled, highly focused, passionate, master of karate. If you meet him in competition, you will see one of the most fierce and powerful karate champions of modern times. From his quiet beginnings in Miyagi Province, Japan, he began training karate at ten years of age. The movies of Bruce Lee had just come to Japan and started a wildfire of interest in the martial arts. Abe found himself becoming inspired to follow Bruce Lee and become a champion. He went to high school and college, eventually becoming a chiropractor. He even opened a chiropractic business next to his karate dojo. During the time he was in school, however, he spent every spare moment training karate. When people around him went to movies, parties, or on vacation, Abe spent time in the dojo. Abe always focused on his dreams and goals about what he wanted to accomplish in karate, and dedicated his training to accomplish his goals. These two things, more than anything else, have made his championship dreams come true.
Karate World Championships 2000, Munich Aside from Munich s olympic Park, the sport school in Oberhaching willalso be affected by the karate World Championships in the year 2000. http://www.karate-online.de/munich_e.htm
Extractions: Munich, a city of international stature, has developed from a monastic settlement on the Isar and has been influenced by the Wittelsbacher lineage since the 14th century. According to statistical surveys, peopleexperience "love at first sight" with the "white-blue" metropolis and if given a choice, most Germans would choose to live in the Bavarian capital. The reasons for this are numerous. While someone may enjoy strolling around the pedestrian zone with its Old City Hall and Church of Our Lady, others may love to visit Munich's theatres with over 25 stages ranging from the Bavarian State Opera in the National Theatre to the charming small theatres. Still others may prefer to visit the places of Nymphenburg and Schleissheim as well as perhaps the Haus der Kunst, the famous Pinakothek or any other of the major museums. But Munich is much more. Munich ist the most important economic centre in the Federal Republic ofGermany, a dynamic city of commerce, headquater of science and technology and an international recognized trade fair centre. And Munich was a sport metropolis long before the 1972 Olympic Games. In addition to a multitude of top sporting events, over 300.000 citizens participate in 800 sport clubs or keep themselces fit and healthy on their own through leisure sport.
Evolution And Dangers Of Sport-Oriented Karate than Judo did after it was introduced as an olympic sport during the 1964 gamesin Tokyo Nakayama does say essentially what every other karate master has http://www.kokondo.com/sport_karate.html
Extractions: The second section of the article relates to the moral and philosophical foundations of karate-do and effectively explains and clarifies some of the misconceptions concerning the responsibilities of martial artists. The conclusion delves into where the mind should be during a self-defense situation, and parallels particularly well Shihan Arel's cautions against being afraid to be hit or cut in a fight. Nakayama sensei provides a helpful context for the lesson we hear consistently in Kokondo dojo. Karate was developed in Okinawa, where the people were strictly forbidden to own weapons. Its practitioners there usually trained themselves alone through practice centering on kata. They held no matches. Although we can maintain our technique through practice without an opponent, we cannot improve our mental and physical conditioning in preparation for actual battle.
Omsk Interview 1994 visit to Russia and his participation in the AllRussia karate Tournament in GrandmasterKim Soo, you referred to Tae Kwon Do becoming an olympic sport? http://www.kimsookarate.com/articles/omsk-interview.html
Extractions: Omsk Interview The seeds for this interview were planted during Grandmaster Kim's 1994 visit to Russia and his participation in the All-Russia Karate Tournament in Omsk. Grandmaster's visit led to the publication in May of 2000 of the first Martial Arts book in Russian , the arts having been outlawed during communism. His book, combied with the reawakening interest in Martial Arts, led to this interview which became an article published in both the Evening Omsk (Siberia) and Sports Weekly newspapers. Foreword by Grandmaster Kim Soo A llow me to introduce myself. My name is Grandmaster Kim Soo, and I developed the International Chayon-Ryu Martial Art Association. Chayon-Ryu is the Korean term that means "The Natural Way." All things in the universe follow the natural path. If one follows this logical and reasonable path a correct result will be reached. However, if one commits a wrongful act, the result may eventually prove harmful. The same "natural way" philosophy also applies to the physical aspect of Chayon-Ryu. The student who lets his/her body flow naturally through a technique is far less likely to incur an injury. Furthermore, power generated from natural movements is far greater than from contrived moves. Humans designed martial art, therefore, we must move as humans, not as animals. Many people talk about tigers, cranes, snakes, dragons and any number of fanciful creatures to make their system seem mysterious and secretive. This trickery is used to draw people in, but this teaching is false since humans cannot move like any of these creatures. People with no martial art foundation find this fantasy more exciting than plain and simple truth.
