Following is a recap of our discussions. BUDGET PRIORITIES ADOPTED We formally adopted our budget recommendations for fiscal year 2004, which begins next July 1. It is our job to make the initial recommendations for the states total budget for elementary and secondary education programs. Next spring, the legislature and the governor will hammer out the appropriations bills that will determine actual funding levels for the 2003-04 school year. We approved a proposed budget package that totals slightly more than $5 billion, the vast majority of which includes state and federal funds that flow directly to public school districts.
