Of the 1,810 current CSPA members eligible to enter the Crown Awards, 1,514 newspapers, magazines and yearbooks submitted copies for this competition, according to a press release. Judging, which took place at Columbia University from December 14-17, 2003, was done by the Board of Crown judges. The newspapers were judged on writing, editing, design, content, concept, photography, art and graphics. The Daily's Gold Crown Award was announced Saturday in the Grand Ballroom of The Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. Ayrel Clark, managing editor of visual and production for the Daily, and Kim Bui, assignment news editor for the Daily, accepted the award.
