Discover Camp http://ncaonline.org/discover/ ) is an on-line resource for parents whose children with disabilities are going to camp for the first time. Discover Camp was created by the National Center on Accessibility in collaboration with Bradford Woods Outdoor Center, both programs of the IU School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

I just saw a new book out on Parenting Your Child with Autism and I think it might be a real gem. I'll get it, read it, and if it passes the muster, get you a citation. Michael Powers book, A Parent's Guide, would also be a good first read. I'd also love to help you flesh out other stuff that comes along and dig up gems from the archives, if you want. I did a post once a while back on getting a diagnosis from a developmental pediatrician that seemed to have a positive impact on those who were reading at the time. Lynda Huggins had a great one on sensory integration a while back, too. Just let me know how I can help, meanwhile, I'll get after that new book for you. Instead, these children engage in HOME SCHOOLINGthat is, they will pursue learning at home or elsewhere in the community. There is no one way to do it. One family may begin with opening ceremonies to signal the start of the daily routine and follow a scheduled curriculum. Another family may opt for child-led learning, where parents provide help as the child expresses interest in a topic. Usually parents provide supervision and help, but most children assume increasing responsibility for choosing and carrying out projects as they mature. Most families involved in home schooling organize activities with other families. Some children spend part of their time at a local public or private school, or a nearby college.
