Extractions: Decisions are made slowly. Indians require time to discuss every aspect of a deal, and then usually take more time before giving a final answer. Be patient and plan other activities while waiting. Impatience is viewed as rude, and high-pressure attempts to get things done faster will be resisted and resented. Decisions are made at the top of the hierarchy, so whenever possible cultivate and maintain good relationships with the highest-ranking executives. Talking about your friends and family is an important part of establishing a relationship with those involved in the negotiating process. Indians tend to be enthusiastic about discussing politics and religion. They enjoy opinionated conversations and don't necessarily want to hear only bland pleasantries from a foreign guest. Nevertheless, refrain from tackling these controversial subjects unless you are well-informed.

We are the birds of the same nest, But can survive only collectively It is this spirit of humanness that has been the undercurrent of existence in a part of the world known by many names like Aryavarta, Jambudwipa, Bharatvarsha, Hindustan or India. This spirit has also prevailed in many other parts of the world where the right thinking of humankind has prevailed. Shiva-Nataraja - the Indian God of Dance.

Extractions: Page Last Updated: June 08,2004 Introduction India's streets are truly a melting pot of her culture. Indians take to streets on all important festive occasions, whether they are celebrating a wedding, a victory, or a religious event. For a large number of poor Indians, indeed, the streets are the stage where the drama of their entire life unfolds. A surprisingly large percentage of pictures in our photographic archive were photographed on the streets of India, and we have prepared this series to depict the variety of activities that go on the streets of India everyday. About India - Heritage And Culture indias cultural heritage goes back uninterrupted to the time when ancient civilisations had thrived in Babylon, Nineveh and Thebes. http://sunsite.iisc.ernet.in/India/culture.htm
Extractions: There was a time when India was known as the land of snake-charmers. Then people started identifying it as the land having the majestic Taj , the ferocious Tiger and the great desert Thar. But with each turn that the wheel of time took, Indians have proven to be a lot more. And so has India proved the belief to be wrong. From time immemorial, India has been seen as a mystery land. A land full of paradoxes, it causes travellers to marvel and also to despair during their journey through India. Like an enigmatic lady, India has always attracted the attention of the world for various reasons. The famous writer and traveller, Mark Twain (the pen name of Samuel Clemens), wrote after his sojourn through India in 1896: "So far as I am able to judge nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country that the sun visits on his round. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked. Always, when you think you have come to the end of her tremendous specialities and have finished hanging tags upon her as the Land of the Plague, the Land of Famine, the Land of Giant Illusions, the Land of Stupendous Mountains and so forth, another speciality crops up or another tag is required." It was best, he decided, to discard the labels and call it simply the Land of Wonders. Over the ages, India has experienced hundreds of years of foreign invasions and influence, yet it still manages to absorb and change everything the world cares to impose on it, remaining at its core untouched. If anything, it has developed into a multi-linguistic, home for masses of many religions. Although India has modernised to a great deal, old traditions and ancient cultural rhythms continue to have a strong hold over the functioning of the nation.
