Illinois Civil Justice League - About ICJL believes the three branches of illinois government, Executive establishment of public policy, including laws dealing with aspects of the code of civil Procedure http://www.icjl.org/about.html
Extractions: President The Illinois Civil Justice League is a coalition of Illinois citizens, small and large businesses, associations, professional societies, not-for-profit organizations and local governments that have joined together to work for fairness in the Illinois civil justice system. The League's agenda is limited to working for, and preservation of, a civil justice system that is fair to all Illinois citizens and interests. The League, with its members, was the principle author and proponent of major tort liability reform in the Illinois General Assembly in 1995. One of the immediate impacts of the new law was a sharp reduction in the number of civil lawsuits in Illinois following enactment of the law by Governor Jim Edgar, a reduction that saved Illinois taxpayers and consumers millions of dollars. Yet in a controversial and highly questionable ruling, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned that law in 1997. The conditions that necessitated sweeping tort reform legislation in 1995 have not disappeared; in fact, they have worsened since the Supreme Court's ruling and thus the agenda and objectives of the Illinois Civil Justice League continue, with a concentration in specific areas: The League believes a fair and impartial judiciary is essential to a fair civil justice system. Thus the ICJL and its members will closely monitor the performance of judges and will evaluate the qualifications and experience of candidates for the judiciary.

The History Of Sodomy Laws In The United States - Illinois Period Summary illinois judicially recognized fellatio as a violation of the states sodomy law only because of an obscure civil rights disability http://www.sodomylaws.org/sensibilities/illinois.htm
Extractions: The Sensibilities of Our Forefathers The History of Sodomy Laws in the United States By George Painter Illinois "The existence of such an offense is a disgrace to human nature." The Post-Revolution Period, 1776-1873 After the Revolution, Illinois, as part of the original Northwest Territory, received the English buggery law with a 1795 Northwest Territory ordinance, thus making sodomy a capital offense for males only. In 1809, the Illinois Territory was created and a statute adopted all laws of the Indiana Territory, in place of the Northwest Territory law. The harsh code of Indiana adopted by Illinois provided for a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine of $100-$500, and up to 500 lashes. This statute remained until a new law was adopted after statehood. In 1819, a law was adopted to revise criminal penalties. The sodomy penalty was changed slightly to set the jail term at 1-5 years, and the flogging penalty at 100-500 lashes. The fine remained unchanged. A supplemental law adopted the common law of England and all English statutes in support of the common law adopted prior to the Jamestown settlement.

When Professor Steinman was first approached to oversee a volume of the next edition of Wright and Miller's classic treatise, Federal Practice and Procedure , she declined. It wasn't until she was offered the authorship of the volumes she wanted that she accepted. "They first offered me the volume on venue. I told them that I think it's a great treatise and I'd love to work on it, but I thought I would be bored to death writing about venue," she says with a laugh. "Then they offered me the volumes on removal and I accepted." As one of the nation's top experts in federal jurisdiction and removal, Steinman is a perfect match for the Wright and Miller treatise project. And Steinman can use the opportunity to stay sharp in her primary area of legal scholarship.
