This is the sixth consecutive year that IHFAs Communications Department has participated in the competition, and the most awards given to the Association. IHFA competed in the Public Relations category with other Idaho companies and agencies, receiving: This years Idaho Press Club Awards received 1,051 total entries. Prior to the meetings, the State Boards Limited English Proficient (LEP) subcommittee will meet April 21 at 1 p.m., at the North Idaho College Student Union Building, Driftwood Bay Room. Agenda items include an update on the new federal flexibility guidelines for LEP students, as well as a report on federal and state fund allocations. Joe St. John, principal of Lakeside Elementary in the Plummer/Worley School District will also give a presentation on how the district helps its LEP students. Members of this committee include community members as well as State Board members Blake Hall, Rod Lewis, Paul Agidius and Dr. Marilyn Howard. State Board meetings will be held at the NIC Student Union Building in the Lake Coeur d'Alene room. Meetings will start both days at 8 a.m. Thursday the executive session begins at 8 a.m., in the Blue Creek Room. Following the executive session, the Board will begin hearing items on the agenda. Highlights from the day included: Discussion on charter schools - At the April meeting, Board President Blake Hall assigned a subcommittee to look at charter schools in the State of Idaho and prepare a report to be submitted to the Governor. At yesterday's meeting, Laird Stone, Board member and chair of the subcommittee, gave an update and said a full report will be ready for the December 2003 meeting. The Board listened to presentations regarding charter school issues that may require a solution before the end of the year. Mr. Stone said his committee will consider the issues and, where necessary, have recommendations for short-term solutions at the next meeting. University of Idaho affiliation with the Sun Belt Conference - After much thought and deliberation, the Board voted, 5-3, to authorize the president of the University of Idaho, or his designee, to pursue and accept an invitation as an all-sports member of the Sun Belt Conference.
