This task force has been assembled in an effort to better understand the implications of federal regulations and other legislation aimed at helping students with disabilities learn to their potential, namely the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Educators in every state in our nation want to improve the learning outcomes for student with disabilities, said Terry Bergeson, Washington States Superintendent of Public Instruction and chair of the CCSSO Task Force. We must take advantage of this opportunity to move away from our heavy emphasis on compliance to a stronger focus on higher learning and achievement levels for all students with special needs.

Extractions: Jefferson County all The biggest legislative district in Idaho, geographically, is District 26. A candidate or a legislator would find it all but impossible to cover thoroughly; little wonder that, at any given time, lots of people in it feel out of touch, barely represented. The most determined of legislators could not make it otherwise. Government seems remote, "them" imposing their will on "us." Government is frowned upon here. There is timber cutting here (the forests are mostly well-covered with trees) and some lumber production as well. Old cattle ranching businesses continue, especially south of Salmon in Lemhi County and around the Challis and Mackay areas. The mining industry that first brought people here continues to spasm in boom and bust. But increasingly, this area is turning to recreation, second-home, telecommuter and (in the Rigby area) suburban development for a more stable base. Stanley and Salmon have become popular tourist stops (popular places for rafters to put in to the Salmon River), Challis is a hot spot for hunters.
