Extractions: wasc Help Site Map Home ... Designing your Content Tools for Self Publishing Using Adanced Features Getting Help As already stated, you only need computer access and notepad for most of the work you will do. But if you want to get more sophisticated content or present you content in HTML, then you needs some tools. Here is a list from the Webmaster with some observations. So by default, many on campus users are browsing in Internet Explorer (IE), but there are (NS) users, Opera Eudora Lynx and even Mozilla users. While all browsers do generally the same things, they do them differently. IE is the least tolerant of the standards; Microsoft wants everybody to comply with their standards. Lynx, by the way, is a text only reader which means it will not download images or other content. Text and Word processors As we keep alluding here, all you need is a basic text processor but you can even type directly into the edit mode pages. Any word processor works as well but, all of your effort to pick fonts, use bolding or other formatting are going to be lost when you paste the text into the page. One more caution about using MSword, it includes a feature called save as HTML. While it does create an HTML version of the document, it also add hundreds of line of code that are ineffectual. The addition lines of code will only slow down the user's browser.
ImageSafe - Image Copy Protection. This means the original image applets are left unchanged but the site visitor may have to receive, possibly through purchase, a new ImageSafe and html editors. http://www.cellspark.com/imagesafe.html
Extractions: Products Purchase Download Alternate download ImageSafe is for those who have an image they want people to see but not in a form that can be easily copied. To do this the product encapsulates webpage images in a Java applet for viewing. This means: Images can't be retrieved from the cache or server nor can they be right clicked and the applet can be prevented from running locally. A single HTTP request fetches the applet and image with a total download overhead typically around 2.9K. A line of text or second image can move across the main image to frustrate screen capture. Animated GIFs as well as static GIFs and JPEGs can be protected and this can be done in batches. Batches of many thousands of images can be processed at once A view-by date can be specified after which the images will no longer appear. Images can link to other webpages like any other webpage image. ImageSafe can password protect images without requiring any CGI programming. This is done by setting a password on the image and by getting ImageSafe to generate a special file, about 1K in size. This file could be e-mailed to authorized viewers of the image but it must exist on the viewing PC's disk for the image to be seen. A password file can have an expiry date so it's possible to allow authorized access for a given period of time only. This means the original image applets are left unchanged but the site visitor may have to receive, possibly through purchase, a new password file to continue viewing the images.
