Extractions: About the book: In this atlas, Robert H. Hewsen traces Armenia's turbulent history, from ancient times to the present day through more than two hundred and thirty full-color maps packed with information about physical geography, demography, and sociopolitical, religious, cultural, and linguistic history. Robert Hewsen's work is the first definitive historical atlas of Armenia and the first such atlas to be published for any of the former Soviet republics. The book is divided into five sections, each of which begins with a chronology of important dates and a historical introduction to the period. Specialized maps include Ptolemy's second-century map of Armenia, as well as maps of Roman, Cilician, Ottoman, tsarist, and Soviet Armenia. Other maps show the Persian khanate of Erevan, the Caucasian campaigns of World War I, the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian monuments in Turkey and Transcaucasia, the worldwide diaspora, ground plans of selected cities, and plans of the great monastery of Echmiadzin in 1660, 1890, and 1990. The atlas concludes with maps portraying the Karabagh war and the new Armenian Republic. Looking Toward Ararat: Armenia in Modern History Images of sample maps: Mt. Ararat

Pearl Harbor Attack historical background, attack timeline, a few photographs and maps, and list of sources. http://www.pitt.edu/~jcm11/NavalResearch/pearlharbor.html
Extractions: Pearl Harbor Attack By: Midn 4/C Sarah Dufort, Dominic Fatore, Josh Mattingly, Ray Zedler The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was foreshadowed in several areas, including inferior treatment of the Japanese, the movement of the Pacific Fleet to Pearl Harbor, and the fortification of the Philippines. These areas and other background leading up to the attack are discussed. Japan was angered by what they believed to be inferior treatment by the United States. In 1905 Oriental children in the San Francisco School District were taught apart from other children. Japan took this as simple racism, which it was. Japan demanded full parity on the tonnage of cruisers and destroyers in the Disarmament treaty conference held in London, and was insulted by the proposed plan (5:5:3), enough so to withdraw from the conference.

SOUTHERN SHORE OF LAKE ERIE First maps of northern Ohio and the south shore of Lake Erie, before the Western Reserve: THE WESTERN RESERVE First manuscript maps to show the Western Reserve: Holland Land Company map of 1795. - This is a map produced for the owners of the Holland Land Company, in Amsterdam, who then owned a huge tract in upstate New York. They were interested in purchasing the Connecticut Western Reserve and dispatched one of their American surveyors, Ellicott, who produced this map. The map offers little more than an overview of the Reserve's outline, the Cuyahoga River and some generic fill about forests, but it predates anything produced by the Connecticut Land Company, who eventually did purchase the Reserve. The original manuscript map is in Amesterdam, but the SUNY/Fredonia made a 2/3 color copy of the map and has offered reprints for sale. Check the Western Reserve Historical Society gift shop, too. This Library was originally founded in E.R. 347 by order of Count Blackstone. Our charter was to act as collectors of information, to hold them for the public good and to make them available to all researchers and those interested in the histories of Evendarr. Over the years this library fell into disrepair and many documents have been lost to the depredations of time. In 602, by Order of Duke Derek Blackstone, the archive has been refunded and is in the process of being restored. We are actively seeking any documents pertaining to the lands and people of Evendarr to add to our collection. With the addition of Eric Augustson as chief researcher, we have expanded the archives scope to include all of the lands surrounding the Kingdom of Evendarr, and to include the entire continent of Avalon itself. With luck we hope to collect information on all the lands of the world of Tyrra. With Your help, this may be done. We would greatly appreciate ANY information on any lands you may encounter, maps, descriptions, treatises, folktales. All will be gladly accepted.

Extractions: CENTENNIA is a map-based quide to the history of Europe and the Middle East from the year 1000AD to the present. Centennia is a historical atlas unlike any traditional print atlas. Centennia's maps evolve from one date to the next displaying border changes on-screen in a 'map movie' mode. Centennia includes over 9,000 border changes. Changes are displayed as frequently as ten times per year in recent centuries. Enter Centennia covers the history of major empires such as the medieval Byzantine Empire and the Holy Roman Empire ("Neither Holy, nor Roman", the Holy Roman Empire is the name historians came to use for the loosely organized German 'empire' which existed for about a thousand years up until the year 1806). Centennia offers complete detailed coverage of the history of the Turkish Ottoman Empire from its humble beginnings as a small emirate in 14th century Anatolia until its rapid demise as one of the principals on the losing side of the First World War. The Crusades, the history of the Soviet Union, the recent Bosnian war, the Unification of Italy, and hundreds of other regions and eras are covered in Centennia. Centennia has been required course material for over five years at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Centennia is also required reading at the University of California at Berkeley, the US National War College in Washington, DC, the University of Virginia, and many other colleges and universities. Not just for academics, history enthusiasts and genealogists enjoy exploring history with Centennia. German genealogy especially benefits from the detailed coverage of German state borders during the later middle ages and the early modern era.
