Extractions: About MORI News About MORI UK Offices UK Associate Companies ... Recruitment 4 October 2003 Two years after re-launching its identity and programme, The Scout Association commissioned MORI Social Research Institute to determine some key aspects of how the long-established movement is viewed today. Awareness of the organisation is high. More than four in five (86%) British people say they have heard of the Scout Association, higher than all other youth groups measured. The Scouts also scored highly on trust with two thirds (67%) saying they trusted the organisation. The public sees the organisation as 'adventurous' (77%), 'exciting' (61%) and 'environmentally focused' (67%). The qualitative research that MORI undertook shows that what appeals to parents about Scouting are its values, the skills it teaches and the opportunities it offers young people. Technical details MORI conducted four focus groups among parents of children aged 6 -14. They were held across England between the 30 April and 1 May. MORI then interviewed a nationally representative sample of 1,953 (in the first wave of research) and 1,958 (in the second wave of research) adults aged 15 and over in 198 different sampling points. Interviews were conducted face-to-face, in-home, between 5-10 and 19-24 June 2003. 1,953 respondents aged 15+ across Great Britain

As a young scoutmaster (25 at the time) he started organizing troops in Germany with several scout friends (we refer to them collectively as the Countryless Eagles). He is still active as our General Secretary. His tireless work built the organization into what it is today. He celebrated his 75th birthday last September. We who now are responsible for carrying forward this work owe him an eternal debt of gratitude for his work and sacrifices." The materials on this page were provided by Imre Lendvai-Lintner, the Executive Director of the Hungarian Scouting Association in Exteris. He writes: Hungarian Scouting was founded in 1910. It was officially abolished in Hungary in 1948. In 1989 it was again legalized. Our organization started operating in the displaced persons camps in Germany and Austria in 1948 as the Paul Teleki Scout Association. In 1948, we renamed ourselves as the Hungarian Scout Association. In 1989, we returned the Association's original seal to Hungary and gave it to the new Hungarian Scouts Association (that was when we changed our name). We base on our work on carrying out our obligations at four levels (God, our adopted countries, our fellowman and the Hungarian nation).
Extractions: Part One I NOW started on my second life in this world. I had definitely left the Army in 1910. I was now settling down to be a good citizen as a Warden of the Mercers' Company (N.B.-A Mercer, like a poet, is born such, he is not made); and the Boy Scout movement had started itself and was finding its feet far and wide. This, though it promised to be the biggest job of my life, was at the same time the easiest since everybody connected with it met me more than half-way with their keenness. In 1912 all was going smoothly and well when out of the blue an entirely new kind of bomb suddenly caught me in the midriff! DOUBLE HARNESS It was in this way. During my first life I had had my time fairly fully occupied, with little leisure for thinking of such extraneous matters as marriage; indeed, I had been railed by my best friend, "Ginger" Gordon, 15th Hussars, on being a confirmed old bachelor; and when I said that I had no desire to get married and I felt sure that nobody would desire to marry me, he looked at me quizzically for a space and then remarked, with the laugh of one who knew: "You'll get it in the neck one day when you least expect it. Old boy!"

The Scout Association became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in 1933. The Girl Guides of Liechtenstein became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1952. At the end of World War II, Rangers and Rovers helped in refugee camps. In 1953 the World Scout Conference took place in Vaduz and for this reason, a special scout stamp was published. A first-aid-group for Scouts and Guides was founded in 1973. The Scouts and Guides have had their own shop since 1976 and in 1979, they started publishing a bimonthly magazine for leaders, which is called "KNOTEN". Co-operation between the Scout and the Guide Associations has increased since 1981, when joint activities were organized to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Scout Movement in Liechtenstein. In 1989, the two Associations merged and its official name now is "Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen Liechtensteins". HSH Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein and his sister, HSH Princess Nora are Honorary Members of the Movement. Among the main events in the scouting year are the annual summer camps, winter camps and various activities for all branches at national level.

Scouting first started at the Bishop Cottons Boys School in Bangalore. In 1916, a Cub section was started, followed by the Rover section in 1918. Scouting for native Indians was started by V.V.N.Bose, Madanmohan Malvia, Hridyanath Kunju, Dr.Annie Beasant and G.S.Arundale, in 1913. Prior to this date, Scouting was only for British and foreign Scouts. The Bharat Scouts and Guides was officially formed on November 7, 1950 and Scout activities began on August 18,1951. Prior to the Bharat Scouts and Guides, there were several Scout Associations operating in India. In 1909, Indians were not permitted to join Scouting. Only the British were allowed to be Scouts. They started a Scout organization named, "the Boy Scouts of India". Later, Indians were given permission to start Scouting. They formed an organization of their own named, "Hindustan Scouts". The Girl Guides had an organization of their own named, "Girl Guides of India." After Indias independence, The Bharat Scouts and Guides was formed. The Bharat Scouts and Guides became a member of the World Bureau (WOSM) in 1938.
