The Scots and Guides merged in 1989 and the organization is now called Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen. HSH Prince Nikolaus and his sister HSH Princess Nora are honorry members. Major events in Liechtenstein Scouting are both summer, fall, and winter camps. There are about 820 members in 2002, somewhat more boys than girls. The Main Liechtensteion Scout association are the Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen which is recognized by the WOSM. There is a second association active in Lichtenstein, the Pfadfindergruppe Maria Enzersdorf/Liechtenstein. They are a member of the Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen Österreichs [Scouts and Guides of Austria]. I wonder what may underlie these differences. Liechtenstein is a country with some 15.000 inhabitants in six villages, measuring approx. 15 by 6 kilometers. There cannot be more than just a few Scout troops, yet they belong to two different umbrella organizations. The Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen have four levls of Scoting: Cubs/Brownies (7-11 years), Boy Scouts.Girl Guides (11-15 years), Pioneers (15-18 years, and Roivers (18 years and older). The Pfadfindergruppe Maria Enzersdorf/Liechtenstein call their 10 to 13 year olds "Späher"and their 13 - 16 year old's "Explorer" as indeed do the Scouts in Austria.

Posted by kelly at March 18, 2002 12:07 PM totally know what you felt. well, sorta, i was in beavers/cubs/scouts and i quite once i was 12 or 13 cuz it was just too much of a popularity contest. little did i know that high school was about to be much the same. i was also pegged around that time as 'gay' so i just retreated to my bedroom and stayed away from the 'bullies'. little did i know how right they were. hindsight. Posted by: jay at March 18, 2002 12:25 PM It was such a popularity contest. I was lucky enough to be made a "seconder" of my clique-y thing (Lily of the Valley!) in my first year, and a "sixer" of the clique-y thing in my second, thus ensuring that I was one of the cool geeks. That's shitty about the bullies at school, but you're probably better off for having just done your own thing. On the bright side, can you imagine how much snarking we would have gotten had we stayed with Guides/Scouts throughout highschool *chuckle* Posted by: Kelly at March 18, 2002 12:44 PM

ZHP was formally established in 1918 just after Poland had again become an independent country. In the 1920s the association was a founder member of WOSM and WAGGGS. When World War II broke out ZHP did not suspend its activity but became an underground movement continuing its educational mission with the additional aim of defending the country. After the war, and as a result of political changes, ZHP lost its membership in WOSM and WAGGGS but regained it in 1996. T he ZHP of today is a modern Scout and Guide national organisation with almost 200,000 members, open to everyone regardless of origin, race or creed. Education in ZHP is based upon the moral norms derived from universal cultural and ethical values of Christianity. GIRLGUIDING ASCENSION CELEBRATE THINKING DAY GET GLOBAL 2004 THINKING DAY (TD), February 22nd, is when Girl Guides and Girl Scouts everywhere remember each other and reaffirm their commitment to international friendship and understanding. The chosen date in February each year marks the joint birthdays of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, the founders of the Scout and Guide Movements. This year THINKING DAY fell on a Sunday, and Guiders here on Ascension agreed to start the day with a special mini service incorporated in the Family Service at St. Marys Church. This year, too, we were delighted to have the Scouts and Cubs join us at this rather special event, as well as parents and friends. Our service included an introduction and explanation of why Thinking Day is celebrated and prayers by Guides and Scouts, the renewal of Promises by all Guide and Scout Units, an explanation by the Guides of the World Badge and what it symbolises, a reminder of the Scout Laws, a brief talk about Founders Day by the Scout Leader and a simple yet meaningful Candle Ceremony.
