Military Family Housing Privatization 670 units at Robins AFB, georgia, and plans residential development should attract housing industry attention development projects, single family and townhouse http://www.bens.org/upd29.html
Extractions: Archived Publications Update #29 February 23, 1999 Military Family Housing Privatization: An Update The Bottom Line : BENS has often criticized the pace and design of the Pentagon's program to privatize military family housing. Fortunately, many of the program's growing pains have been addressed. This update examines the program as it now moves into the full implementation stage. Current plans are far reaching-almost one quarter of the military's stock of 300,000 housing units are under consideration for demolition, renovation and/or replacement. However, ultimate success of military housing privatization hinges on DoD's commitment to letting the private sector take the lead in crafting solutions. The pace of the military family housing privatization initiative finally appears to be gaining steam. In January, DoD announced competitions for 1,120 units to be built over the next two years. The Fiscal Year 1999 Defense Authorization Act sets aside nearly $3.5 billion for housing construction and maintenance. The same level of funding is being requested for FY 2000.
