Extractions: Wednesday, June 9, 2004 Homework Help Forum Homework Help Experts Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, christened Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart, was born in Salzburg on 27 January 1756. His father, Leopold Mozart, was a famous musician and composer in his own right. In his twenty-fourth year, Leopold received an appointment as violinist in the orchestra of the Archbishop of Salzburg, finally rising to the position of chapel master. He composed with fertility, and produced a famous violin method. But, as Leopold himself realized, his greatest work was not his own music, butÑhis son, Wolfgang. Much has been written about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's phenomenal precociousness. At the age of three, he already sat in front of the harpsichord attempting to find harmonic successions of thirds; whenever he succeeded, his shrill voice rang out joyfully. When Wolfgang was four, his father began to teach him the elements of harpsichord and, playfully, the rules of composition. Wolfgang did not need to learn. He began producing minuets and other small pieces for harpsichord, and several sonatas for harpsichord and violin. He produced with such ease that by his sixth year he had produced an imposing quantity of minuets, sonatas, and even a concerto. His sensitive ear could recognize that the violin of his fatherÕs friend was tuned an eigth of a note lower than he himself tuned his own instrument; and it could rebel so violently against a raucous sound that at the blast of a trumpet he swooned with pain. Music, obviously, came as naturally to him as breathing.

Search French Language Guide Picks - Top French Grammar Books There are hundreds, maybe thousands of French grammar books available, each claiming to be the "best," the "most concise," the "most complete," etc. Obviously they can't all be the best, and in fact one of them must, by definition, be the worst. How do you know which is which? Well, that's where I come in - I have more than a dozen French grammar books, many of which I use regularly, and others which I might as well throw away. Here are my favorite grammar books: the ones that I use every day as well as those I've grown beyond, but keep because they once helped me so much. (The parentheses indicate the working language(s) of each book.) Le Bon Usage Originally published in 1936, this is the bible of French grammar - the most thorough French grammar book that exists. It has been republished more than a dozen times and is a must for fluent speakers. This is the book that native speakers refer to when they want to understand or explain some aspect of French grammar. (French)

Extractions: French is a relatively easy second language for English speakers to learn because of the close historical relationship between the two languages. Their alphabets and sentence structures are very similar. In addition, many English words come from French or from Latin, a common root of both languages. What began with a classroom of 30 students whose parents wanted their children to learn Canadas other official language through he publicly funded school system is now a program of choice with over 300,000 students enrolled across Canada. In 1977, a nationwide support group called Canadian Parents for French had formed and became a major catalyst in the spread of their new concept in second-language education. Today, parents continue to be the major driving force behind French immersion-enrolling their children, supporting their children and their school, helping with extracurricular activities, monitoring program quality and promoting the program with governments, school boards, other parents and the public. Most parents of Immersion children cannot help their children with French at home and our goal with the following information is to make the transition for you and your child as easy as possible. When we first enter our children in the Immersion program we all want what is best for our children and that they receive quality education in French and English.
