Animation Lab: Modeling And Animating Geological Phenomena Simulation of Mountain Scenery, The Journal of Visualization and Computer Animation,9(4 There have been many studies of fractal techniques that use 1/f noise http://www.cc.gatech.edu/gvu/animation/Areas/rocks/rocks.html
Extractions: Projects: Avalanches River Deltas Fractal Terrain We're forming a reading group on modeling and simulating geological phenomena with an eye towards making progress on the projects listed on the left. We'll be reading papers in two broad categories: graphics papers on natural phenomena and papers from the geological literature. January 21: organization F. Kenton Musgrave and Craig E. Edited by Jeffrey Lane. Kenji Nagashima. Computer generation of eroded valley and mountain terrains , The Visual Computer, 13(9-10), pp. 456-464 (1998). Abstract: An improved physical erosion model for computer graphics is proposed. Valley and mountain terrains created with this model and based on the erosion of river flow, rainfall, and weathering were observed to be more realistic than fractional Brownian terrains. Earth layer structures such as the Grand Canyon were also formed on the surfaces of the valleys. Further, growing processes of eroded valleys and mountains have been simulated successfully. Terrains with differing surfaces were created easily by adjusting the erosion intensities of rainfall and thermal weathering.
Extractions: This course introduces techniques for computer animation such as keyframing, procedural methods, motion capture, and simulation. The course also includes an overview of story-boarding, scene composition, lighting and sound track generation. The course will explore current research topics in computer animation such as dynamic simulation of flexible and rigid objects, automatically generated control systems, and evolution of behaviors. This course will teach you about current techniques in computer animation. By the end of the course you should be able to There are several optional texts for the class: by Watt and Watt
Animation Window 1 They only handle true color images. So you have to make sure that your fractalswhich you add to the animation timeline use the 24 bit mode. http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/animation/animation1.htm
Extractions: This graphical element is a self made GUI component which should graphically display a timeline, i.e. it should show you at what time what keyframe should appear. If you add a keyframe to this component by clicking onto the 'Add' or 'Add first' button, you will see a small rectangle (blue, selected keyframe: red) labeled like the keyframe. After the label - enclosed in brackets - you see the 'distance' to the previous keyframe and the absolute position of this keyframe (unit: number of images): So means, that this keyframe appears at position 18 (it is image number 18 in the animation) and 8 images will be calculated from the previous keyframe to this one.
