Zooming into my house from above the U.S. I used a script on my Mac to copy gifs from a WWW site and then patched them together into a Quicktime movie. Then I used Macromedia's Director to add some transitions and indicate where my house was, added a photo of my house, and credits (done using Pixar's Typestry "Menger cube with crosses" (1280x1280 195Kb jpg) A filled 3-level fractal wooden Menger cube filled with brightly colored plastic fractal crosses. Aaron Isaksen helped me with the design of this object.

Extreme Measures Thanks to everyone that has posted. To answer the question of what software I used or what software is needed to create something similar, the Triskelion images that make up the 12 frames of the animation were created in Photoshop 5.0. I still use Photoshop 5.0 more than any other later version I have installed, due to a nice collection of high end plug-ins that are only compatible with 5.0 and a huge assortment of actions I have recorded over time that automate alot of repetetive steps while doing Graphic Design work. One particular plug-in collection I have installed though, contains a fractal generator that allows you to select and fill an area with a defined image that is created by "surfing" in real time through a Mandelbrot Fractal. It gives you the ability to design and generate infinite fractals with sliders, resulting in possibilities like this Triskelion, which is a Julia set of the Madelbrot Fractal tweaked out to my settings.

In order to describe where an animation goes Franimate! uses "key frames". Each key frame is it's own Fractalina window, describing the fractal that will be one of the frames that the animation goes through. An animation must have at least two key frames, the first and last frames of the animation, and can have more in between, to give finer control over the animation. Key frames are like check points: Franimate! can decide how to go between key frames, but it must end up at each key frame in order. The number of frames between each pair of key frames is supplied by the user (see below ).
