The teacher must provide documentation to show that he/she has addressed the standards for their certification area. The National Board advises that it will take approximately 120 hours to complete the process. A National Board certified teacher will tell you that it takes closer to 300 hours. In Pasco County, eleven of our teachers recently achieved National Board certification and will be recognized for this accomplishment at a future School Board meeting. Pasco County now has 54 teachers with National Board Certification. The names of the new teacher recipients and their school sites are:

Jacksonville.com: Higher Certification Standards Urged 7/29/97 life. Some states still allow lifetime certification, but today teachers in florida must apply for recertification every five years. http://schoolmatch.com/audit/jacksonville/articles/2a4train.htm
Extractions: Times-Union staff writer Sixty years ago, Florida teachers who met a few state standards would be certified to teach for life. Some states still allow lifetime certification, but today teachers in Florida must apply for recertification every five years. ''We want teachers to be current, to continue their growth and professional development,'' said Ava Belitzky, director of the state's Office of Professional Training Services for the Department of Education. But some state and local officials say Florida's minimum standards for recertification don't go far enough to push districts to offer training for teachers, or to push teachers to get it. ''We're getting what the state requires, but we're not getting what we need,'' said Andy Ford, president of the Duval County teachers' union. The standards set by the Legislature are similar to those used by the 41 other states who have recertification requirements in place, according to the Education Commission of the States, an independent commission that compiles educational research and data.
Policy Update: Florida: Flush With Cash - Quality Counts '99 schools. With the economy healthy, florida provides strong incentives for teachers to earn national board certification. But even http://www.edweek.org/sreports/qc99/states/policy/fl-up.htm
Extractions: (all revenue sources) he big news out of Florida's legislature last year was a budget so flush with cash that lawmakers tried to give some of it back. Although a Republican proposal for a $50 tax rebate for property owners withered under a gubernatorial veto, district officials say they're benefiting from the surplus funds through an increase of more than 5 percent in the general state operating budget for schools. "We have to thank our legislators because they were wonderful to us," says Henry Fraind, a spokesman for the 347,000-student Miami-Dade County schools. With the economy healthy, Florida provides strong incentives for teachers to earn national board certification. But even as school leaders express gratitude, the Florida teachers' unions contend that lawmakers missed an opportunity to do more for education. Given the healthy economy and a $2.5 billion tobacco settlement, legislators could have pumped more money into the school funding formula and supported a proposal by Frank T. Brogan, the outgoing education commissioner who was elected lieutenant governor last fall, to expand professional-development opportunities for teachers and administrators, says Cathy Kelly, the assistant director for government relations for the Florida Teaching Profession-NEA, an affiliate of the National Education Association. "The money was spent on lots of stuff other than education," Kelly says. "The priority was not education. The priority was keeping everybody happy in an election year."
