Religious Reform School Accused Of Abuse In Lawsuit Stilley said his client returned to Arkansas after escaping the florida school. Missouri law exempts religious boarding schools like Mountain Park from state http://www.teenliberty.org/MtnParkLawsuit.htm
Extractions: Religious reform school accused of abuse in lawsuit THE ASSOCIATED PRESS 07/10/02 POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. A federal lawsuit on an Arkansas teen-ager's behalf asks a judge to mandate reforms at Mountain Park religious reform school in Missouri, and in Florida at their Arcadia school, calling their disciplining practices abusive. Missouri's Mountain Park Boarding Academy, according to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau, has subjected students to austere forms of discipline, denied outside communication, limited bathroom breaks and allowed students to sleep as little as five hours a day. The suit is on behalf of 17-year-old Jordan Blair, who attended Mountain Park last year and later transferred to the sister Palm Lane Academy in Florida. Blair, of Alma, Ark., bolted from the Florida school while on an errand with a school worker. Mountain Park is an independent Baptist school enrolling 120 girls and 35 boys near Patterson, Mo., about 110 miles south of St. Louis. Palm Lane, in Arcadia, enrolls about 50 students.

By Beth Reinhard The Dade County, Fla., school district is seeking state money to build a first-of-its-kind boarding school for boys who are likely to get into trouble with the law. The school board in the 340,000-student district approved a plan for the boarding school on Feb. 19. A bill authorizing four pilot boarding schools was expected to be introduced in the Florida House this week. The bill will not identify prospective locations, but its sponsors are eyeing Dade County, Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville. "We think it's a good idea to put money into prevention instead of waiting for kids to go through the juvenile-justice system," said Rep. J. Alex Villalobos, the chairman of the criminal-justice-appropriations committee and a co-sponsor of the bill.
Extractions: Hare Krishna Movement In October 2001, 91 plaintiffs in their late 20s and early 30s filed a four hundred million dollar lawsuit in a Texas district court against more than a dozen Hare Krishna temples and organizations and many former leaders of the movement. The suit alleges that horrendous sexual and physical abuse occurred in at least eight of 11 Hare Krishna boarding schools in the 1970s and '80s. Amy Engeler (My Generation Magazine/July 2002) The appalled movement elders, who had learned of the abuse five years earlier, did not dispute the claims. But they argued that since the boarding schools were now closed (some because of the abuse, some because they were too costly to run), it would be unfair to force the movement to sell off major assets in order to placate the young people over events that had taken place 20 or 30 years ago. Instead, the Krishnas announced in February that the temples named in the suit would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. This would effectively stop the legal proceeding. Instead of using their limited resources to fight the suit, the Krishnas could establish a fund for the children who'd suffered. The victims of the abuse were undeterred, unwilling to paper over the deep rift that had formed between the generations.

Extractions: NOTICE: The following posts are taken from the Christian ADHD List List of Boarding Schools and Summer Camps for ADD/ADHD Children These have not been personally evaluated by ADHD of the Christian Kind so it is up to each family to personally check out any schools you may consider for your child. Please do this in person. An account of one member's visit to Bunker Hill Military School/Camp and an update on that school. My first thought was "oh no, not for a 6 yo." But then I finished reading your post. I know that it sounds like the only way out. Just seek the Lord's face on this one and do what He gives you the peace to do. My heart goes out to you. I don't know how you'll do it; but if the Lord truly wants you to take this step, He will give you the peace, grace, and funds to accomplish it. I do not know anything about boarding schools for ADD/ADHD. But I have a friend who keeps her autistic son in a home with very good results. However, she has had to move him several times to find a suitable program. Her case is very like yours- her son is high IQ, but was dangerous to those around him and to himself. He is not the typical autistic- he is high functioning. He requires 24 hour supervision and a challenging educational program. He understands what is going on in his head now, so he comes home on weekends and extended visits but asks to go back when he feels funny again.
