Extractions: Back to Technical Support Document Index How To Query On "Loan To Value" Tech Support Addenda #0170b How To Query On "Loan To Value": The trick here is to use a numeric field not currently in use and do a Global Replace of the 2 fields that determine the loan to value ratio. Then the query can be done on the replaced numeric field. If loan to value is determined by first trust deed divided by the transfer value, then in FMS the expression would be: (FIRST_TD / TFR_VAL) But, since FMS or pretty much any software program will "crash" if you divide a number by 0, (division by is undefined in mathematics), the expression becomes a little more complex: (IIF(TFR_VAL > 0, ((FIRST_TD/TFR_VAL)*100),0)) So the whole process would go something like this: Get In Farm: Start FMS and select the "View A Farm" option. Select the farm and order as usual. Backup Original Farm : (Optional) If you don't want to permanently replace any field, you will need to make a copy of the farm first. To do that, press F5 for the Misc Menu, and select "Farm Copy". Enter the name for the new farm, and press Enter. If you want to do the copy on the new farm just created instead of the current farm, just select "Switch Current Farm" from the Misc Menu, and select the new (copied) farm. Select Replaced Field: Press F5 for the Misc Menu, and select "Global Replace". Press any key to bypass the warning, and select the NUMERIC field you wish to replace with the Loan To Value percent. Valid fields are ASSD_VAL, BLDG_SQFT, LOT_SIZE, SECOND_TD, and LAND_VAL. Using other fields will require that the conversion expression be modified, see page 2

Extractions: MISC. - IF YOU CAN'T FIND IT, LOOK FOR IT HERE PREPARATION AND DELIVERY OF LAMB (Courtesy R. Metheral) A very important part of management of the farm that often gets overlooked is preparing and delivering the finished product. With some careful attention to small details, a substantial premium can be achieved. The first criteria for the shepherd is to determine the market that he/she is aiming to supply. The end market will determine the weight range and condition score the lamb has to reach. With the market determined, the proper feeding regime can be put in place. Preparing the lamb for market after reaching the required finish can be very simple. The lambs presentation can reward the owner with higher prices at the market or better kill at the abattoir. Tips to remember are: 1. early docking 2. shear long wooled lambs at least 2 weeks prior to marketing 3. trim tags if shearing is not possible 4. castrate or pinch lambs destined to weights over 75 lbs. 5. abstain from putting marks on the hides 6. makes lots as even as possible 7. keep as clean as possible 8. make sure all drug residuals are adhered to 9. reduce feel intake before marketing When delivering a lamb to a public auction, make sure of sale times and deliver lambs to hit optimum time in the sale. For example, if delivering for a Monday sale at Cookstown Yards, it is best to get your lambs into the yard between 9:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. Monday. This will usually put lambs in the sale order between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. when all buyers are sure to be there. When delivering to the local butcher, make sure lambs are booked in at least one week in advance. At this time, ask when delivery is best at their establishment.

Extractions: From the 27th till the 31th of August the 15th European Seminar on Extension and Education took place. The theme during this seminar was "Integrating Multiple Landuse for a Sustainable Future". The seminar is organised bi-annual by one of the participating universities, this year it was organized by the communication and innovation studies group of the Wageningen Universtiy. During the seminar three workshops were held on organic agriculture. In this article I will try to present some of the issues and conclusions which took my attention. The seminar took of with some introductary lectures. Cees Leeuwis gave some implications for new extension practices to support the development of sustainable agriculture. Extension is largely based on innovation-theory. Innovation is a process of renewal, in which social and technical arrangements are re-ordered. Innovation needs coordinated action in a network (according to Roep, 2000). Organic farmers are triggering innovation in agriculture and rural development, because they are confronted with the constraints of social structures which hamper their farm-development. An example of this is the search for ecological pest management by a farmers group. This search is not only on comparing observations as a group, but also on the organisational issues of the farmers research-activity and the right support for these activities (see Schoubroeck, 1999). Cees Leeuwis stated that innovation is also a political affair, and so is the facilitation of the innovation-process.
