The Stinky Cheese Man And Other Fairly Stupid Tales lit, which requires me reading 70 childrens books. Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid tales is one Its some of your favorite fairy tales ..except told in http://www.edu-books.com/The_Stinky_Cheese_Man_and_Other_Fairly_Stupid_Tales_067
Extractions: LOVE this book! About half the humor is for grown-ups, but dont be afraid to try it out with a kid around the 1st grade level. My son and I laugh ourselves silly whenever we read the book. The art is great, and I love the hidden story on the inside of the dust jacket. This is an oddly put together book (thats part of the hook), so it can be challenging to read the first couple of times, but its certainly worth the effort. The book is written by Jon Scieszka and this review was done by April. This book is one of my favorite books because I can read it over and over and still end up laughing. This book is a collection of little short stories, told by the narrator named Jack (From Jack and Beanstalk). There are 11 short stories in this book; Chicken Licken, The Princess and The Bowling Ball, The Really Ugly Duckling, The Other Frog Prince, Little Red Running Shorts, Jacks Bean Problem, Giant Story, Jacks Story, Cinderumpelstiltskin or the Girl Who Really Blew It, The Tortoise and the Hair, and finally, the Stinky Cheese Man. This whole book is about Jack, the narrator, trying to tell all about the stories in the book. He has trouble doing that because the Little Red Hen keeps interupting him when he is trying to tell a story. The reason the Little Red Hen keeps bothering him is because she wants to tell her story about baking bread and that no one helped her make it.

This syllabus is divided roughly into three areas: 1. Realistic fiction, both older and more recent 2. Fantasy, again including both older and more recent works 3. What might be termed "traditional" children's literature, such as folk and fairy tales, fables, myths, and heroic legends Picture books will, of course, be considered according to the categories into which they fit. Any picture book presented in class becomes part of the syllabus, and you are responsible for including it in your notes and being able to discuss it. QUIZZES will, as a rule, be unannounced, may vary in format from identification to short essay, and may sometimes be replaced by short out-of-class essays due the same day as the reading. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS and comments must be relevant and substantive, i.e. they must be about the reading and connections you are making with it. After the first two days, discussion of procedural matters will be limited to the final 5-10 minutes of the class period. If you need help with your paper, make an appointment with me a reasonable time before the paper is due. If you have a question about YOUR paper or grade, re-read your work and my comments on it and then make an appointment with me. It's not fair to other class members to make them sit through your conference.

Folk & Fairy Tales I use fairy tales here as a generic term to of variants folk tales, legends, fables, trickster stories and their eventual status as tales for children. http://ace.acadiau.ca/~aschwenk/Child.Lit&Fantasy/FairyTales/FFTaPg.htm
Extractions: Fall 2003 I use Fairy Tales here as a generic term to encompass a number of variants: folk tales, legends, fables, trickster stories, and wonder tales. This course will provide an overview and introduction to the origins of oral folk tales, their transformation into literary works for court audiences and literary salons, and their eventual status as tales for children. Despite waves of opposition, these stories have withstood the journey along the perilous path of censorship and bowdlerization to arrive still bright as dandelions in the imaginations of the 21st century. We will look at well known favorites like Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast, The Three Little Pigs, and Jack in the Beanstalk, to name a very few, in their less familiar earlier variations, and also as they have been revisioned in illustrated versions and literary reworkings. We will also read a variety of less widely known older stories and a few contemporary works that have fairy tale foundations. Prepare to be surprised and to have your ideas about what constitutes a fairy tale and what childrens literature is stretched! This reading adventure is not for the faint hearted. Extractions: Jon Scieszka is the author of the most subversive and intelligent children's books around. He has teamed up with a number of illustrators, most notably Lane Smith, who has lent a funky, dadaist aesthetic to Scieszka's stories of bacteria, processed meat products, time-traveling kids and, of course, stinky cheese. Scieszka is the author of, among other things, The Stinky Cheese Man and other Fairly Stupid Tales , the Time Warp Trio books, and the new Squids Will Be Squids . We conversed via email. Ryan Boudinot: I spoke to my sister (age 14) last night and she said her copy of The Stinky Cheese Man physically stinks. What'd you guys do, use bleu cheese dressing in the ink?
