Southern Ethiopia borders with the Sudan in the west, Kenya in the South, Region Four (Oromia) in the West and Region Fourteen (Addis Ababa) in the North. This region is located about 38 E and 8 N latitudes. Southern Ethiopia is very rich and fertile. There are numerous minerals and Varity of crops that earns foreign currency for Ethiopia. Lots of domesticated and non-domesticated animals exist in the region. There are number of big rivers, streams and lakes in the region too. 95% of forest (some Tropical) of Ethiopian empire exist in this region alone. The density of the population in the area is estimated 1-2 persons per km . The economy of the region is highly lobour intensive. Constant wars in Ethiopia and continuous demand on man power for maintaining the army disrupts the production capacity of many families. Thousands of children are left orphans as these continuous due to wars. As the result, people are mal-nourished and lack resistance to disease. Continuous deforestation and uncontrolled migration of numerous populations from other parts of Ethiopia to this region distorts the ecosystem. The region is one of the most neglected areas in the whole of Ethiopia and an estimated one in thousand people had access to education and information in 1996.
