Extractions: University of Florida Gulf Coast Research and Education Center Weed Science and Soil Fumigant Program James P. Gilreath, Ph.D Bielinski M. Santos, Ph.D. Contents: Research Objectives Research Papers Extension and Outreach Documents Weed Identification Guides Weed Science Societies Research Objectives: Identifying acceptable alternatives to methyl bromide for tomato, pepper, strawberry, caladium and gladiolus. This effort focuses on the full spectrum of soilborne pest control, not just weed control, and involves cooperative research with soil pathologists and nematologists. Identify herbicides which provide acceptable control of nutsedge in the above referenced crops. Determine the most effective and acceptable means of applying herbicides and fumigants to achieve the desired level of efficacy. Develop improved application procedures for fumigants and modifications of existing processes to achieve desired levels of efficacy, efficiency, and reduce potential for exposure for applicators. Develop improved application procedures nonselective or potentially phytotoxic herbicides applied to row middles of vegetable crops.

Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy Functions to maintain a system of nature reserves on the Niagara Escarpment with the objective to support research, education and ecologically sustainable recreation to preserve landscape, ecology and wildlife. http://www.escarpment.ca/
Extractions: The Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy is a registered charity whose mission is to establish, maintain and manage a system of nature reserves in the area of the Niagara Escarpment ( more info The Niagara Escarpment has been designated a World Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations. It is a continuous series of natural areas, consisting of forests, meadows, marshes, rocky cliffs and shorelines, centered on a spectacular 400 million year old geological formation. It is home to the most ancient and least disturbed forest ecosystem east of the Rocky Mountains, with thousand year old cedar trees and a wide diversity of plants and animals. Threatened or endangered species include Ladys Slipper Orchid, Massasauga Rattlesnake, Harts Tongue Fern among others. The Niagara Escarpment is under immediate threat by development on every side: housing, industry, resource extraction and some recreational activities are destroying its natural features. Our plan is to build a natural ecosystem corridor from Niagara, past Tobermory and all the way to Michigan.

We discovered why prairies are important to the way we live and what humans do to impact this vanishing ecosystem. Discover the plants and animals that compose the prairie ecosystem with our online activities and resources.
Extractions: I have had 45 turns around the Sun and still each season, indeed each and every segment in each season still fills me with awe. In February when the sunshine feels warmer and the tree buds noticeably swell; I am in awe, both of winter and spring. In early spring as the leaves begin to emerge and I hear the neo-tropical migrants begin to call; I am in awe. In high summer as every rock, tree and stream vibrates with life, knowing that everything is preparing for the next season; I am in awe. And again, in early winter when I snow track my first moose, peering into its large snowy track, and think it could be a female already pregnant with the coming springs calf; I am in awe. I have the enviable job of helping open that sense of awe in my students, through my programs and hikes. Each season there is something new to examine, someplace new to explore and new boundaries of education to expand. A new word has taken loads of my time over the past couple of years ecotourism. Many organizations have asked me to help in both local and region wide outreach efforts to improve ecotourism in Massachusetts; chambers of commerce, state development agencies, AMC chapters and the New England Forestry Foundation. The bottom line is that more and more people are looking to our environment for a mixture of solace and work. Tourism, all forms, is the 3

Explanation of Acid Rain and also on the approach taken to measure the levels of Ph are provided below. What is Acid Rain? Acid rain refers to all types of precipitationrain, snow, sleet, hail, fogthat is acidic in nature. Acidic means that these forms of water have a pH lower than the 5.6 average of rainwater. Acid rain kills aquatic life, trees, crops and other vegetation, damages buildings and monuments, corrodes copper and lead piping, damages such man-made things as automobiles, reduces soil fertility and can cause toxic metals to leach into underground drinking water sources. Acid rain also affects lakes, streams, rivers, bays, ponds and other bodies of water by increasing their acidity until fish and other aquatic creatures can no longer live. Two kinds of air pollutants cause acid rain sulphour dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). These are emitted primarily from utility and smelter "smokestacks" and automobile, truck and bus exhausts, but they also come from burning wood. When these pollutants reach the atmosphere they combine with gaseous water in clouds and change to acidssulphuric acid and nitric acid. Then, rain and snow wash these acids from the air.
Official Killarney National Park Website Details the varied ecology of Killarney National Park in County Kerry, Ireland. It explores the different habitats found within and outlines how best to visit the area. The website also incorporates the Killarney National Park education Centre. http://homepage.tinet.ie/~knp/duchas/
Extractions: Mail is the Irish State body responsible for national monuments and historic properties, national parks and wildlife, waterways, visitor services and the national inventory of architecture. It is an integral part of the Government Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands. Dúchas as an entity was launched in 1997 after a restructuring of ministerial and departmental responsibilities (the functions now performed by Dúchas were formerly carried out by the Office of Public Works). The Irish word 'Dúchas' translates into English as "heritage, birthright, patrimony, native place, natural state and homeland", and is therefore quite appropriate to the work of the service. National Parks in Ireland National Parks in Ireland exist to "conserve natural plant and animal communities and scenic landscapes which are both extensive and of national importance, and, under conditions compatible with that purpose, to enable the public to visit and appreciate them". There are currently six national Parks in Ireland, and these are:
