    Extractions: Secretary: Kate Favaro On April 25th and 26th, 3 CCS SADD members, Bert Dupee, Meaghan Lamica and Kate Favaro along with Mrs. Gravell were able to attend the NYS SADD conference held in Albany, NY. These students witnessed some excellent speakers and workshops focused on safe and healthy living. They felt inspired by many of the presentations that sent a clear and powerful message. SADD plans to begin fundraisers in attempt to book these presenters to speak to CCS high school students within the next year. Not only did they find them humorous and informative but also feel that the message they send out is an important one that could impact the entire school. These students did an excellent job at representing CCS and all were able to break a board with one chop. SADD was pleased with the number of students who signed the “Promise Pledge” following the MOCK DWI crash. Thanks to all of you and we hope you have a safe prom weekend. SADD members also visited elementary classrooms to have those students make “safe prom messages” for prom goers as an added attempt to be sure everyone stays safe. As part of this month’s "TOLERANCE" theme, SADD plans to have “mix it up” day in the cafeteria on Friday, Health Day at CCS. For this activity, all who enter the cafeteria during lunch will receive a colored sticker, which will determine the color table to sit at for that day. The point of this exercise is to encourage everyone to meet and talk with different people and find that differences can be a good thing. Everyone is encouraged to participate.

    Extractions: Recognizing the need to reduce the use of drugs by the youths in our state, the Hawai`i State Incentive Grant (SIG) was developed with two major goals: The Governor's Office of the State of Hawaii was awarded an $8.4 million grant by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). This three-year grant is administered by the State Department of Health's Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD). The Center on the Family provides technical services, such as data collection and dissemination, for the Comprehensive Prevention Strategy, as well as training and technical assistance to communities operating prevention programs under the SIG. As part of the strategic planning for the State Incentive Grant for Drug Abuse Prevention (SIG), the Center on the Family developed 13 Community Risk and Protection Profiles. These profiles serve as a foundation upon which community members can define the needs and strengths of their own neighborhoods in planning their prevention proposals. The Center on the Family continues to provide ongoing support to the SIG through this web-based dissemination of data collected for our community profiles as well as additional data collected by other organizations for various components of the overall State strategy. These additional components include the Bi-annual Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Use Survey of Hawaii's public and private, middle and high school students, the Social Indicators Study, and the Community Prevention Resource Assessment of local prevention programs and services.
