Training Day If at a result of the drama lesson plans, you find you need to start addressing the issue of racial bullying, comments and harassment, you could consider using http://www.education.ed.ac.uk/ceres/Site/Curriculum/DramaPlans.html
Extractions: The course was constructed as part of an ongoing initiative to deal with prejudice within schools via student participation in drama. The theme of the ten lesson plans is the encouragement of students to be aware of the origins of prejudice, racism through the lenses of both the victim and the perpetrator. By doing this it is hoped students will begin to empathise with those on the receiving end of prejudice and, by understanding the motivation of the perpetrator, to react effectively to it. Top Who is it for? The course of lessons was written for use particularly with P6/7 to sixth form. The lesson plans were piloted in two secondary and one primary school within West Lothian and Ediinburgh in the autumn of 2003 and spring 2004. With Currie High School and James Gillespie High School , Zee Sulleyman who developed these plans did the actual teaching.

Extractions: "Our aims are helping children to understand, so that...they are helped to face facts and to interpret them without prejudice; so that they develop a range and degree of identification with other people; so that they develop a set of principles, a set of consistent principles, by which they are going to live." - Gavin Bolton So now that we've covered the basics, lets take a look at how we can actually apply the ideas covered on this website to a class lesson. Below is a lesson plan I created for a group of students at a second-chance school. Most of the students had been referred to this school because of behavioral problems, and had little to no background in dramatic arts. This session also took place the week after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the students were discussing daily events that they saw in the news. There were two goals in writing this lesson. First, to give the students a basic idea of aspects of theatre. The second was to explore their feelings and themes surrounding the events of September 11.

Extractions: Whenever we ask you for feedback about Teachit the same words come up again and again: practical, useful, accessible, relevant, organised, comprehensive, up to date, supportive. Im really proud that weve been living up to this list and saving you time for all the other important things in life. Whether youre into wasp tickling, salt stacking, dust bunny sculpting (all genuine - theyre on Google!) or just want a bit of time for you we hope we can help. But no matter how many resources on offer we all know that it can be nigh on impossible to find the perfect worksheet for a particular class / teacher / objective / context. It doesnt take a genius to realise that the task that works perfectly for, lets say, 10A first thing on Monday may not go down so well with 11D last lesson on Friday, particularly if youve tried to join the normal people on Thursday and go out on a school night! And, for many of us, creating or adapting the materials is a vital part of the planning process; as anyone who has attempted to teach a cover lesson using someone elses resource can testify, these things can, and should, be personal.
