Extractions: The war is the result of a large-scale Eritrean military invasion of Ethiopian territory. Eritrea has recently announced claims on these territories that were being peacefully administered by Ethiopia. But international law forbids the use of force to change the status quo. A country which has territorial claims on areas peacefully administered by another country must not resort to force; it has to bring the issue to international mediation. The Eritrean invasion which took place on May 12, 1998, violated this fundamental tenet of international law. After the invasion the Eritrean government stated that it had "brought under its control large swathes of territory." Eritrea claims that Ethiopia provoked the invasion because of a clash on May 6, 1998 between Ethiopian police and Eritrean army units in Badime. However, Badime and its environs were under peaceful Ethiopian-administration at the time; as established by an OAU fact-finding mission. Eritrea has not been able to provide a logical explaination for why it sent armed Eritrean units into Badime on May 6 in the first place.

Review by Alice L. Conklin, University of Rochester, for H-France, April 2003. A recent edition of Le Monde des Livres (23 January 2003) contained a rare page devoted solely to new works on the French empire. The two books that the editor selected out were Marc Ferros Le livre noir du colonialisme a collection of articles detailing well-known colonial atrocitiesand yet another of Pascal Blanchard and Sandrine Lemaires popular volumes on the most spectacular and racist sides of colonial culture in France, Culture coloniale: La France conquise par son empire 1870-1931 (this coming fast upon last years Zoos humains ).[1] Both reviews were enthusiastic; they were also entirely uncritical. I would not want to read into this single set of reviews more than is warranted. But taken at face value, it would seem that a newspaper that regularly features serious historical scholarship might also call attention to, or at least show an awareness of, the more nuanced work that is beginning to emerge in France regarding its colonial past, particularly with regard to sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. It is very easy to condemn colonialisms most visible excesses. It is considerably harder to lay bare the myriad more subtle ways in which colonialism worked its way into the life of the nation over the course of the last centuryways which linger (and malinger) still. Yet this is precisely the kind of history that a growing number of French scholars are now attempting to write.[2]

Extractions: Click image to see a larger version Born in Feb 1965, I'm a true Aquarian. I was raised mostly in rural community in central Utah. It was a great place to grow up in many ways. The small town attitude of life still is stron in my being. It imparted a sense of interdependence on others as well as caring for people. When you live in an area where something you do makes an impression in many lives, you learn to think about your actions and their consequences. My Mother is from Rotterdam, Holland and the other side is a mixture of Danish and Irish heritage. With fair skin and auburn hair, I'm more adapted to the cooler climates of the north than the Mediterranean climate of the south (and San Diego, but I absolutely love it here). I've also inherited the Dutch height, at 6' 3". I have many varied interests. I'm truly a jack of many trades and master of none. My greatest interest is my love for travel. I love to travel and see other parts of the world and cultures. I was very fortunate to be able to that in my Navy career. I was exposed to areas of the Middle East (Pakistan, Bahrain, Qatar, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Jordan), Africa (Seychelles, Kenya, Djbouti), Asia/Pacific Islands (Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Philippines) Australia, and Europe (France and Italy). It was amazing to see so many different places and cultures. I loved it. SInce then I've continued my travels, but focused on Europe. I love the European culture and continent and never tire of travelling there. I've been to Austria, Czeck Republic (only as Czeckoslovakia at the time), France, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, and England. I am currently trying to bring my German and French back up to conversational level and want to learn Dutch (my native tongue). October 2002, I went to Netherlands, Brussels, and Koln (Cologne) and had a great time.

Extractions: Adopts Comprehensive Anti-Terrorism Strategy; Sends In the shadow of the 11 September attacks on the United States, terrorism and the question of Afghanistan loomed over the Security Council's agenda in 2001. Throughout the year, however, the Council also focused on a global range of unstable situations, notably the long-term conflicts in Africa and the continuing violence in the Middle East. In addition, the significant progress in Kosovo and East Timor was closely monitored. On the day after the terrorist attacks, members broke tradition by standing in unison to adopt a resolution condemning them, expressing sympathy with families of the victims and the host country. Council members also expressed their readiness to combat all forms of terrorism in accordance with Charter responsibilities.

SC30-2 Report of the Secretary General Actions requested: The Standing Committee is requested to review the report of the Secretary General on the progress of the Convention since the 29th meeting of the Committee, and to advise the Secretariat as appropriate. Introductory remarks 1. Since taking office on August 1, my priority has been to examine the basic operations of the Secretariat, including the budget allocation and expenditures. Clearly much work was already in the pipeline, and I have simply watched the processes unfold, while trying to restrain the number of missions paid for from Core funds. As for this present Standing Committee meeting, I have simply allowed previous processes to be followed in terms of the arrangements and preparation of papers, etc. 2. The process of securing COP9 agreements with Uganda have been also a priority, with the MoU being signed in late October. Discussions on COP9 will be held in the framework of the COP9 Subgroup, preceding Standing Committee.

Le motivazioni della pratica I motivi che portano a praticare le mutilazioni sessuali possono suddividersi in cinque gruppi.
