The Profiles, which are school-based surveys conducted by local and state education agencies, summarize results from 35 state surveys and 13 local surveys conducted among representative samples of school principals and health education coordinators. The response rate was 51% to 95% across states and 74% to 100% in local areas. Some of the results include: Across states, 77.5% to 100% of schools required health education at least once for students in grades six to 12; across cities, 86% to 100% required the same. 71.8% of states and 87.8% of cities required teachers to use a state health education curriculum, guidelines, or framework. 80.5% of states and 97.7% of cities required teachers to use a school district health education curriculum, guidelines, or framework.
