I will share ideas for people interested in homeschooling autistic children and for people supporting them. Why Our Family Homeschools We have attended workshops and read extensively about the best programs available for children with autism: sensory integration social stories TEACCH ABA ... AIT and learning styles We have linked up with a fantastic homeschooling support group who allows our daughter to be truly included with peers and children of a variety of ages in a loving environment. We have networked with other homeschoolers on the internet who provided tremendous encouragement, knowledge and hope. We have focused on her unique strengths, interests and abilities to help her compensate for her weaknesses, allowing success to inspire more success. Our home is a quiet, stress-free setting which enables her to learn in her own way without frustrating distractions and wasted time. The gfcf diet and nutritional interventions are much easier to implement at home. These protocols enabled our daughter to make stunning improvements. What about Socialization?

Extractions: Search God Made Families Teacher's Guide - this is just one possible lesson plan. Visit the Cain and Abel Section for further ideas to supplement this. You can also use the story of Abraham and Sarah, but I'll be pulling that into a lesson later on. The Cain and Abel story can be a difficult one to teach children as it has a rather harsh ending. But step back a second before teaching it and consider similar current day situations. What child hasn't fought with their brother or sister or friends? What child hasn't been jealous of the attention shown to others? The message: Grades 2 and 3: God made families so we could care for each other. Am I my brother's keeper? I've split this message into two separate ones depending on the age level. For the younger children, the message continues the God as our loving creator theme from the first two lessons, this time in the form God made families. Make sure you repeat the message many times during the lesson. I'm pretty sure the kids won't finish coloring all of their family puppets during craft time, so you can send the unfinished ones home with them, including a little note that the message this week was "God Made Families". For the older children, we expand on this message and ask the question "Am I my brother's keeper?". The question is a quotation from Genesis and has two parts. First, SHOULD we be our brother's (sister's) keepers? Second, how are each of us doing at it? Send the

The Standards/Testing Movement Leftist Group Decries Standards On May 8, 2001, the left-leaning Coalition for Educational Justice (CEJ) orchestrated a demonstration against the Los Angeles School Board's use of the Stanford 9 test, labeling it a racist test. They also protested the use of high-stakes testing to dole out monetary rewards and punishments. The basis of CEJ's arguments is that biased tests and unequal school funding are the cause of low test scores among schools serving low-income students of color. Thus, they stand strongly opposed to the increasing use of test scores for determining what schools and teachers get extra money and which lose funding or get taken over by the state. Collect family stories into a book. Have your child interview grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and siblings for a book of family memories. Decide on a theme, such as favorite childhood games, or interesting holiday memories. Subject matter is limited only by the interviewer's imagination. When enough stories have been gathered, have your child neatly type them up and print the stories onto parchment paper. Illustrations can be hand drawn, or created from clip art. Illustrate each story, and create an interesting title and cover page for the book. Collect into a sturdy binder. Note: This is a fun way for your child to learn the importance of taking careful, detailed notes.
