In the fall of 2001, Paul took on the role of Volunteer Coordinator for the BCN. Marc Sobel joined BCN in Fall of 1998. He walked into the offices of BCN with a desire to contribute to Virtual Chautauqua . Virtual Chautauqua connects k-12 rural youth with performing artists via the interet. Marc knew he wanted to make a special contribution to this project and was very patient in explaining to BCN's nontechnical staff what he had in mind. Marc is recognized by BCN as being a 'Virtual Wizard' because of his vision and determination to build an interactive virtual performing artist museum teachers will use to create unique lesson plans from the Virtual Chautauqua material. There are maybe a dozen virtual museums on the web but this will be the first virtual performing arts museum.. Writing in the Washington Post and the American Prospect Despite some key victories in recent times (most notably, the rebirth of freedom in the former Soviet Bloc), classical liberalism the political philosophy that champions liberty, private property, and limited, constitutional government has lost its way and needs its leaders to return to teaching its importance to the public, according to Independent Institute advisory board member James Buchanan, winner of the 1986 Nobel prize in economics. THE INDEPENDENT REVIEW Early classical liberals articulated a vision so compelling that the public and the lawmakers had to listen. This led to such successes as the repeal of exorbitant tariffs that put imported food beyond the reach of many Brits, and, eventually, the abolition of slavery in the West. But classical liberals lost their way in the late 19th century, Buchanan says. In response to the rising popularity of the ideals of socialism, classical liberals went on the defensive, conceding the collectivist premise that group well-being is what matters most. True, liberty does enable people to produce more goods than does socialism, but this is beside the point and it shifts the debate onto collectivist turf, Buchanan argues.

How about the Department of Labor forecasts of 80%, 90% and 100% job growth between 2000 and 2010 in occupations such as software engineer, network and systems administrator, and database administrator? Heading into the summer of 2003, the "nowhere to go but up" atmosphere of just three years ago seems like a mirage. But was it really? To find out, i.t.link headed for the front lines of technology education, the career schools, where jobs are Job One. "There's no doubt that the slowdown has affected our new student enrollments," says Rene Champagne, President and CEO of ITT Education, owner of 74 ITT Technical Institutes in 28 states. Art Keiser, founder of Florida's Keiser College and now Chancellor of Keiser Collegiate System, echoes Champagne when he calls technology enrollments "very flat. We're consolidating programs now because student demand has softened. Networking programs that used to be our largest are now in the middle of the pack."

The column cites examples of malicious hackers saying they didn't consider their actions to be wrong. Charney and Miller conclude that, if the next generation of computer users are to develop proper ideas about personal responsibility, educators, parents and professionals will have to extend conventional teaching to the computer arena. RIT is the only New York state institution to claim a chunk of the grant totaling $8.1 million. The grant money will be used to train campus safety officers in responding to incidents of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking, and will establish mandatory programs to teach students about violence against women and how it can be prevented. Julie White, coordinator of RIT's Women's Center and principal investigator for the project, learned about the grant-writing competition last March and began contacting RIT departments like Campus Safety, College of Liberal Arts, Counseling Center, Student Health Center and the Office of Student Conduct and Mediation Services, to gain support. In addition, White contacted several Rochester-area organizations like the Rape Crisis Center, Advocacy Services and Alternatives for Battered Women to incorporate the community aspect of the multi-faceted program. "The climate for women is less than ideal and I decided that it was time for our university to institute a cutting edge program that would address this situation in a positive way," she says.
