The presentation will focus on the neurophysiological and pathological changes that occur with concussion, natural history of recovery, associated medical conditions, and treatment. Across the country, practitioners are focusing on body-mind exercise methods, conditioning programs and therapeutic techniques to enhance physical expression, internal focus and healing potential. To learn more about these body-mind practices, the public is invited to attend the Somatic Arts Festival hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Dance Program beginning March 25-27, 2004. "Once viewed as tangential to a dancer's study program, these somatic practices - ways in which we can deepen our appreciation and knowledge of ourselves and our bodies - have become essential and necessary in any dance artist's education," says dance professor and festival coordinator Li Chiao-Ping.
