March brought us the passage of Prop. 42, and even if not all of our members will benefit from the additional funds that this measure will bring through a boost in STA funds now that sales taxes on gasoline will go into the Public Transportation Account rather than the general fund, the passage of this bill sent a message loud and clear that transportation deserves a bigger share of the pie. I foresee that this is just the start of a brighter financial future for transit throughout the state. In addition, your Board has been meeting with the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) and working with them to craft a joint mobilization effort for the reauthorization of TEA-21. Our goals are the same: to increase funding and recognition for rural transit and to stress the importance of our members role in providing critical basic mobility to the most transit dependent. Our future looks brighter than it did just six months ago. I dont know about you, but I am vastly relieved.
