Knoxville Country Dancers The Knoxville country Dancers (KCD) sponsor weekly contra dances, an annual dance weekend, and other activities as the humor strikes us. http://www.korrnet.org/kcd/
Extractions: The Knoxville Country Dancers (KCD) sponsor weekly contra dances, an annual dance weekend, and other activities as the humor strikes us. Dances are open to people of all ages. We dance to live music every Monday night at the Laurel Theater (16th St. and Laurel), from 8:00-11:00 p.m. Beginners are welcome (it helps to show up early for some instruction), and no partner is required. As a general rule dances tend to get a bit more complex as the evening wears on. Admission for all dances is $5 ($3 for students) at the door. You can burn a lot of energy on the dance floor so we do recommend you wear loose fitting comfortable clothing and if you tend to perspire a lot you may wish to bring an extra shirt or two. To preserve our dance space, we request that you wear or bring soft soled non-marking shoes for dancing. What is Contra Dance? Ask 20 different people to define contra dancing and you will get 20 different definitions. My favorite is the analogy given by Gary Shapiro on his definition page "A contra dance is like an amusement park ride we make for ourselves."
