Extractions: Sitting on the bleachers night after night in the spring twilight at Little League baseball play-offs is always good place to talk to other Moms and Dads about their concerns for their children and their school experience. This spring at our playoff rounds the two hottest topics were school projects and technology. The chatter about projects over the years has always been the same. Parents universally agree that too many projects are assigned to kids at the very end of the school year when there just isn't enough time to devote to them. In my mind it has always been advertising propaganda that the December holidays are the busiest time of the year. In any household with school-age kids, May and/or June are really the months of eternal projects, recitals, play-offs, school and other "parent required" attendance events. In contrast, concerns over technology have changed over the years. Seven years ago there was some question about what the place of technology was in the schools; this year parents are perplexed about what computer literacy really means especially with many teachers assuming kids "already know how to do everything on the computer" as one parent put it.
