Extractions: Conservative leaders are continuing to come to the defense of a high-ranking Christian Army officer who categorized the war on terror in terms of spiritual warfare while speaking to a church group recently. Several prominent liberal newspapers like The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times have been printing scathing editorials criticizing Army Lt. General Jerry Boykin for telling a church gathering that radical Muslims hate America "because we are a Christian nation" and "the enemy is a guy named Satan." In response, the White House has tried to distance itself from the remarks of Lt. General Jerry Boykin, but has taken no other steps to discipline the general.

With a history lesson spanning the cave drawings of early man to the Internet age, broadcast journalist Forrest Sawyer kicked off InfoWorld's Next Generation Web Services conference here Wednesday touting technology's central role in the constantly evolving way that humans interact. But he warned that each instance, as with today's digital media revolution, reaches beyond dabbling in technology for technology's sake. "Yes, we are shaped by all the technologies that brought us here and that will bring us forward," said Sawyer, chairman and co-founder of Sawyer Media Systems, in addition to his well-known anchor duties at NBC and MSNBC. "But people focus too much on the technology and not enough on the communications part of this, which is something we tend to take for granted."
