Extractions: Founded by James O. Hill, Ph.D. and colleagues at the University of Colorado Center for Human Nutrition, renowned for their research on obesity, the program was developed to help provide research-based, practical solutions to overweight and obesity in the United States. It has been proven successful because it focuses on behavior modification to achieve long-term weight loss as opposed to fad diets that often deliver only short-term benefits. Eating for Success The Colorado Weigh nutrition component teaches program participants how to make better food choices to help promote weight loss. Because diet is an integral part of overall health, the program emphasizes good nutrition as well as portion control. Participants also are counseled on strategies for eating right at home and away from home and how to make permanent changes in their food choices. Exercise: A Key to Success Long-term, successful weight management requires dealing with emotions and stress in a healthy and constructive manner because these factors often trigger behaviors that can interfere with weight loss efforts. The Colorado Weigh program fosters awareness of the relationship between behaviors and attitudes to teach participants healthy strategies for dealing with life stressors.
