TIPS FOR TEACHING THE ART OF HEADING Using Pantyhose to teach Heading Technique. This tip was posted to the SoccerCoach-L mail list by Connie T. Matthies - It was directed to another member s http://www.decatursports.com/drills/soc/tips_for_teaching_the_art_of_hea.htm
Extractions: Then, practice your run at the ball and do your power heading. This technique allows you to separate the actual process of heading the ball from the timing of the jump. Once you have learned the height which you need for the jump, and the way to make the contact with the ball, you will be ready to work on reading the angles of incoming balls and jumping up to meet them. While it is nice to have a buddy to send balls to you, such friendly folks are not always available. So, if you have any two-story buildings around where you can toss the ball against the building and have it rebound to you, this will allow you to do some work with balls which are coming at different speeds (and, if you turn a bit sideways as you toss the ball, you can simulate a ball coming in as if from a corner kick).

Score Sports COACHES tips Improving Skills to the Professional Level A few years ago I got a request had been campers for the past two years and would I teach them some new http://www.scoresports.com/tips/coaches.asp
Extractions: A few years ago I got a request from the parent of one of our campers. He mentioned that his son and teammates had been campers for the past two years and would I teach them some new techniques. I said that I would be glad to do so, but would he help? There was a World Cup game on TV that afternoon and would he watch and list all of the techniques he saw that he would like me to teach his team? Knowing already what would happen, I waited for camp the next day. My friend was there bright and early. He had started to make a list of skills and realized after twenty minutes that the players in the World Cup were using exactly the same skills that we were teaching at camp. He had believed that learning to play at the professional level was only a matter of building more skills upon more skills. Nothing could be further from the truth! If the skills used by pro players are the same as the ones used by your players, what is the difference? There seem to be four factors that are at work. Professional players are faster than youth players. They run faster and can react faster. But the big difference is that they perform skills at a quicker pace. They make passes earlier and with more pace. With more awareness of the field situation, pros make decisions before the ball is even played to them. Playing one touch passes is no problem for the professional.

Extractions: We had aspirations of a baseball career for our 9-year-old son "goose". After many years of baseball camps, late night practices, a lot of personal coaching on my part and meetings with his professional pitching coach we had to face reality. Which is, "goose" was never going to be able to develop a curve ball and did not have the intestinal fortitude to play "through" the pain. It was a great disappointment for us but it is far better to face reality than continue to waste our time and money on a prospect that was not going to provide an adequate return on our investment. Luckily for us though the Johnsons down the street had a son with much potential and a killer slider, so along with some other incentives (VCR, big screen TV) we were able to trade "goose" for a potential winner. Thus illustrating good things do happen to those willing to make some hard decisions.

Your other players are going to fungo balls and run when they hit it. The pitcher will throw a 1/2 speed ball to your catcher. When the ball hits the mitt. The batter will then toss a ball up and hit it anywhere in fair territory. The goal of the defense is to hold the batters to no runs. The goal of the offense is to get basehits by hitting the ball hard enough to get on with a hit or error. Each batter becomes a runner after he hits and the offense is allowed 3 outs before you clear" the bases. The drill is over when the offense scores 5 runs or the defense records 18 outs. Parent Involvement Regardless of a player s skill level, it is the coach s responsibility to teach every kid on the team. It is no secret that if kids http://www.pta.org/parentinvolvement/nfl_seven.asp
Extractions: Senior Director, NFL Youth Football Development Make It Fun This is the primary objective and cornerstone of the entire philosophy. Regardless of whether it's a game or a practice, sports at the youth level should always be fun. This requires a little creativity on the part of the parent/coach to offer and adopt fun methods throughout all aspects of their program. Incorporate games and low-key competitions to teach fundamentals rather than running traditional drills. Limit Standing Around This is a common problem with youth sports that ultimately turns kids off. Whether it's a game, practice, clinic, or camp, good programs should be designed to engage all participants consistently. Kids don't attend practice to watch others play. Kids enjoy practices when they have fun and they experience an improvement in their overall skills. Many professional coaches put a major emphasis on fast-paced and interactive practices that eliminate downtime. The team's attention and energy levels improve immediately when the entire team is engaged in drills of short duration. Everyone Plays Sports at the youth level should be an inclusive experience. It is never fun at any level of play to sit and watch others participate, anticipating the opportunity to play if the situation arises. The youth level of sports should be an equal learning experience for everyone, whether it's a game or a practice. How often have you either experienced or witnessed a practice where several players are being instructed and drilled while a group of teammates stands around and watches, never receiving the same attention? Most often the group standing around has been deemed by their coach to be not as skilled or talented. Therefore, the attention is paid to the so-called "stars" of the team. A coach is a teacher. A teacher's / coach's job is to raise the level of learning and skills of not only the most talented, but of everyone on the team, starting with the least talented. The NFL philosophy eliminates first, second, and third strings in both games and at practice.
