Extractions: Explicit analogies to the Reformation have become commonplace not only among commentators but also among anticlerical activists, among victims' groups, and, significantly, among ordinary lay believers. One representative expert on sexual misconduct, much quoted, is Richard Sipe, a former monk who worked at the sexual-disorders clinic at Johns Hopkins University and is now a psychotherapist based in California. Over the years Sipe has spoken regularly of "a new Reformation." "We are at 1515," he has written, "between when Martin Luther went to Rome in 1510 and 1517 when he nailed his 95 theses on the door in Wittenberg." That act can reasonably be seen as the symbolic starting point of the Reformation, when a united Christendom was rent asunder.

Extractions: Grace Theological Seminary Foreword: This sermon was prepared while Dr. Alva J. McClain was the pastor of the First Brethren Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Several young men of that church were urged by friends to enter the Masonic lodge and they came to Dr. McClain for counsel in the matter. As the outcome of a conference with them he promised to make a fair investigation of the organization on the basis of such Masonic literature as might be available to the general public, and to report his findings in the form of a sermon to the congregation. Following the delivery of the sermon to a large audience, a number of interested friends made provision for its publication requesting that it be printed as delivered with as little change as possible. This will explain the conversational manner. This booklet has had wide circulation, having gone through six printings. In order to make the documentation up to date, the references in the Encyclopedia of Freemasonry were taken from the "New and Revised Edition" published by the Masonic History company in 1929. BMH Books sends forth this, the seventh printing with the prayer that this important message by the late Dr. Alva J. McClain might serve in an increasing ministry of helpfulness to persons being confronted by Freemasonry, and as Dr. McClain himself said in an earlier foreword, "that its ministry may be used to open the eyes of men, that they may see and honour the Lord Jesus Christ as the 'true God, and eternal life' (1 John 5:20)." Before the publicity surrounding the controversial comments concerning the Holocaust by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, few Christians realised the importance of the concept of reincarnation or rebirth in Judaism, where it is known as 'gilgul' or 'ibur'. This has raised the question: ' If belief in rebirth occurs in Judaism, why was it not carried forward into Christianity?' The Buddhist and Jewish beliefs are similar in that it is the very subtle, non-material mind which survives death. Since this is the only thing that we can take with us to the future, we need to make the best use of our present life to improve its state. The very subtle mind carries qualititative imprints rather than facts and figures, and its manifestations are intuitive. That's why the sense of deja vu - of absolute familiarity with a place or situation despite never having been there is this life - is usually experienced deeply and intuitively as qualia rather than as 'factual' remembrance.
