Extractions: Full Review No doubt about it, the Britax Roundabout is THE premier child car safety seat to have. Though on the pricey side (average $200) it is well worth it, and will last a good long time. It can accommodate children from 5 to 40 pounds, and is convertible from a rear facing to a front facing safety seat. It is one of the only car seats that will actually seat a child up to 30 pounds in a rear configuration, and it meets and exceeds US safety standards.

Extractions: Britax Launches New Child Safety Seat Technology On Expressway ISOFIX Model This month Britax Child Safety, Inc. announces the launch of its new "Expressway ISOFIX" model, the first forward-facing toddler seat in the US with RIGID LATCH connectors. Compared to the now common "flexible" LATCH systems, a "rigid" LATCH system is designed to offer the easiest method of attaching a child restraint to the vehicle. After locating the vehicle LATCH anchor bars, the consumer only needs to pull out the rigid connector assembly and press each of two connectors into engagement, then push the whole childseat back tight into the backrest. As with other LATCH childseats, the Expressway ISOFIX can also be installed using the vehicle seatbelts alone. The Expressway ISOFIX was designed by Britax-Romer in Germany and is shipped partially assembled to Britax Child Safety, Inc. in Charlotte. The ISOFIX name stems from the European acronym for "International Standards Organization fixation." This model goes by the name "Duo ISOFIX" in Europe and so far has been approved for use by 16 manufacturers in 96 different vehicle models. Beyond the easy to use rigid LATCH attachment, the Expressway ISOFIX design includes an innovative "pivot link" mechanism (US Patent # 6,325,454) for reduction of frontal crash loads and head movement.
Extractions: Today, more parents and caregivers than ever before secure their kids in child safety seats. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) , from 1996 to 1998, child safety seat use increased from 85 percent to 97 percent for infants less than one year old, and from 60 percent to 91 percent for toddlers, ages one to four. That's one reason child fatalities have dropped 16 percent since 1996. But amid this good news is an alarming fact: too many parents still don't use the full range of child safety seats, especially booster seats. Safety experts strongly recommend that children should not be moved into regular seat belts until they are at least four feet, nine inches (4' 9") tall, weigh about 80 pounds, and are approximately eight years old. And DC law now requires booster seats for children up to age 8. Yet, booster seat use for children ages four to eight is still less than 10 percent nationally. As part of Buckle Up America, the Metropolitan Police Department encourages all parents and caregivers to know about and follow the law, to acquire and use age-appropriate child safety restraints, to have their child safety seats inspected, and to follow the
Extractions: Only a very few years ago one of the rarest sights on Japan's roads was the sight of a child safety seat in a car. Now child safety seats are common. It is no longer unusual to see a Japanese child in a safety seat equipped vehicle. Japanese culture has a way of maintaining ties with the past while moving forward into the future, sometimes resulting in unusual juxtapositions. Apparently the preferred method for maintaining ties with motoring tradition is to install the safety seat, but not to "install" the child. Let's look at some of the common combinations to be seen on Japanese roadways: 1. Parent and child, no restraint.

Savings Make Proper Seat Installation Part of Vehicle Maintenance You wouldnt think about driving your vehicle with a flat tire, would you? Of course not because that could cause damage to your vehicle and is a safety hazard. So why would you transport your children without making sure they were seated in a properly secured child safety seat? The AAA Auto Club South Traffic Safety department reminds parents to inspect one of the most valuable pieces of safety equipment inside their vehicle their childs car seat. "Everyone knows how important it is to get your car serviced before a summer road trip," said Amy Newton, project manager at AAA Auto Club South. "But since the majority of child safety seats are improperly installed, we suggest parents get their childs car seat inspected by a AAA-certified child passenger safety technician (CPST)." According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), four out of five car safety seats are improperly installed. Government statistics also show that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children 14 years of age and younger. In 2000, there were 2,343 children killed and nearly 300,000 were injured in car crashes.

Extractions: Child Passenger Safety Seat Program The Flagler/Volusia Child Passenger Safety Seat Program has issued over 1,400 safety seats to parents since its inception in 2000. This year the program offers discounted safety seats to the public while they last. Statistics indicate that 95% of child passenger safety seats are improperly installed, thereby greatly reducing their effectiveness. Members of the program work to educate the public by participating regularly in community events in Central Florida that help get the word out regarding child safety. Volusia County Fire Services currently has 14 fire stations open on a 24 hour basis that are designated child safety seat fitting stations where a parent can get advice from a trained Child Safety Seat Technician, at their convenience. Signs outside of the buildings identify the stations as fitting stations. Fifty-six of our firefighters have made the commitment to become trained child safety seat technicians by completing 45 hours of training. When a parent or guardian arrives at a fitting station, the child passenger safety seat will be examined to be sure it is safe, not on a recall list and installed according to specifications. The Child Safety Seat Technician will take the time to show the parent or guardian how to properly install the seat and answer any safety-related questions. Volusia County has one of the lowest automobile death rates for children within the state and has not experienced any deaths to children properly restrained in a child passenger safety seat since the inception of the program in 2000.

Extractions: Thats why, when we developed the RECARO start, we paid particular attention to an ergonomically correct sitting posture. The RECARO start is individually adjustable for height, width and seat cushion length and therefore actually grows as the child does. It is certified for the ECE categories 2-3 in the US. (When toddler reaches 39 inches tall and weighs 30 lbs or more) The special shoulder supports give the child support when cornering and provides support when the child falls asleep. Because of its intelligent, ergonomic design, aimed to cater for the needs of the child, the RECARO start is the first child seat to have been awarded the AGR seal of quality. The AGR, established in 1995, regards itself as an interface for and communicator of information about the causes of back pain and possibilities for therapy. Medical experts, the two largest German orthopedic associations and medical professional associations use the society as an umbrella to focus their efforts for the promotion of back-friendly products. The main focuses of the AGR information activities include the improvement of seat quality in cars. According to the AGR, there is still plenty to be done in this area: a survey of 1,000 orthopedists shows that sitting in a car is an essential cause of back pain problems.
