Henry Ransom Cecil McBay: Chemist than I have ever seen, said Dr. Andrew Z. Keller, one Newspaper Articles David L.Chandler. OBITUARIES Henry RC McBay, 81, Professor of chemistry at Atlanta http://www.princeton.edu/~mcbrown/display/henry_mcbay.html
Extractions: Birthplace: Mexia, Texas Henry Ransom Cecil McBay: Chemist Frierson ) From 1945 to 1981 Henry McBay was appointed as a teaching faculty at Morehouse College, beginning as an Instructor and advancing to full Professor. Professor McBay served as Chairman of the Department of Chemistry from 1960 to 1981. He was appointed Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Chemistry at Atlanta University in 1982 and became professor emeritus of chemistry at Clark Atlanta University in 1986. More than 45 of Dr. McBay's students went on to receive doctorates in chemistry. (Excerpt from Chaundra Frierson, Atlanta Constitution) "You had more black Ph.D.s in that setting than I have ever seen," said Dr. Andrew Z. Keller, one of Dr. McBay's first students at Morehouse, who became chief of epidemiologic research at the Department of Veterans Affairs. "And it was because of Dr. McBay." Dr. McBay was assistant director of the Program for Research Integration and Support for Matriculation to the Doctorate at Clark Atlanta University while continuing to teach chemistry at the time of his death. He has published numerous articles in scientific journals. He was a recipient of the Charles H. Herty award from the Georgia section of the American Chemical Society; the Outstanding Teaching Award from the National Association for Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers; and the James Flack Norris Award for the northeastern section of the American Chemical Society. "More than a half century, Henry McBay tutored and taught, educated and inspired hundreds of young Morehouse men with an interest in and aptitude for the sciences . . . for me and so many other young men, he was a role model, mentor and hero rolled into one," said Dr. Walter E. Massey, Morehouse College president and a former McBay student. (Source:

She was a postdoctoral fellow at Aarhus University, Denmark from 1995 to 1997, using very low temperature X-ray data (from laboratory and synchrotron sources) to carry out charge density studies of transition metal complexes. In 1998 she returned to the University of Durham as a postdoctoral research associate, studying magnetically interesting materials through low temperature single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. She joined the Chemistry Department in 1999 as a Research Officer with the Crystal Structure Service. 1. For many years, Dr. Miller and colleagues (most notably, Prof. Quentin F. Stout, U. Mich), explored the boundaries of producing efficient and optimal algorithms for fundamental problems in computational geometry and image analysis on traditional parallel architectures, including the mesh, pyramid, hypercube, and PRAM, as well as innovative architectures, such as the reconfigurable mesh. A number of seminal papers have been published in these areas.
