Extractions: Dear Ann, For as long as we live we will never forget the people, the sights and the adventures we had in Belize & Guatemala. It is without doubt the finest holiday we have ever had. Our travels in Central America were seamless, stress free and perfectly planned. The resorts and hotels were perfect. San Pedro was "Perfectly Caribbean" and ideal for our Wedding. We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this dream possible, and if we decide to return to C.A. we know who we'll be coming to. With our heartfelt best wishes

Extractions: Project activities have included monitoring and supervising the work being carried out by the Central America and Argentina Gender Technical Facilities (GTFs); liaising with Bank Task Managers of projects receiving GTF services; and reviewing the impact of GTFs at the project level. GENFUND has contributed to building large demand from Task Managers and executing agencies of World Bank agencies to participate in the GTFs (currently 39 projects are participating). GENFUND has also allowed local gender consultants to provide ongoing hands-on gender training for project implementation units. For example, in November 2001, a second workshop for gender capacity building was organized in Guatemala, in which 35 project implementation units participated. By introducing gender-specific capacity building activities, this project created income generating opportunities for the Chorti indigenous communities in and around the Copan Archeological Park.

Latin America/Caribbean By Frank Jack Daniel, 2/19/2004 GUATEMALA CITY (Reuters) - Archeologists are exploring a ADVERTISEMENT ruined kingdom in Guatemala to work out how it survived centuries of conflict in the ancient Mayan Indian world before being abandoned to the jungle more than 1,200 years ago. Known as Naachtun, the city-state played a strategic and possibly unique diplomatic role in the turbulent politics of the Mayan civilization. In early February, a 32-person expedition team led by Canadian archeologist Kathryn Reese-Taylor left Guatemala City for the remote Peten jungle area near the border with Mexico to excavate at Naachtun, a Mayan name meaning "distant stone." The team will try to explain how Naachtun survived the collapse of the great pre-classic Mirador civilization and then went on to blossom during centuries of conflict that followed.
