Extractions: In the place where the Volga river flows into the great Volga river, on the border between the Nizhni Novgorod region and the Republic of Mari El the village of Yurino (former Arkhangelskoye) is situated. This is where a unique castle, the epistle of Yurino, may be found. They call it the pearl of the Volga. In 1850 the possession of the estate was taken by V.P.Sheremetev who was married to the St. Petersburg's beauty O.D.Skobeleva, a sister of the well-known Russian commander M.D.Skobelev. V.P.Shcremetev decided to build a castle in Arkhangelskoye. The Russian and German architects R.Muller, A.Parland, Yakov Mamontov and Pave! Malinovskiy designed the castle. The immense castle was erected by craftsmen from the Yurino village. An Italian, Yermi Kristofoli, was invited to make the inlaid doors. The castle architecture in-cludes various features from different styles, and the influence of Gothic, Oriental, Romanic and old Russian styles can be seen there as well. The magnificent building is built of red and black bricks; white stone details effectively stand out against the black and red background. There is a large balcony above the front entrance, which rests on four white stone columns. The Southern entrance leads to the winter garden and a glass cupola rises on an enormous ring, which is supported by seven columns. Such a large winter garden built into the castle is a very uncommon feature. There were almost a hundred rooms in the castle. "The Picture Gallery", "The Oriental Study", "Tlic Oak Room", "Skobelev's Hall" are among them. The canvases of great painters such as El Grcko, Luke Laidensky, Yan Brcgcl Barkhalny, , K.P.Brullov and many other pieces of art testify to the fact that the collection of pictures was unique.

Budapest is separated into two parts (Buda and Pest) by the Danube river, Pest being flat (including downtown Budapest), and Buda being mostly a hilly area, including two of the best vantage points of the city: Castle Hill (housing the quaint Castle District) and Gellért Hill. The city's most well-known attractions are the Buda Castle, Heroes' Square, the enormous Parliament, the Basilica, the views of the city from the two hills, and of course the vistas along the majestically flowing Danube, including the trio of Chain Bridge (Lánchíd), Elizabeth Bridge (Erzsébet híd) and Liberty Bridge (Szabadság híd). The gallery also contains pictures of some of the most interesting smaller towns of Hungary: Pécs, a cheerful university town with much medieval and Turkish heritage; Szeged, a town in the Great Plains whose most characteristic landmark is its unique cathedral; Debrecen, the second largest city in Hungary, having a beautiful and atmospheric downtown; and Visegrád, which has a superb location along the Danube bend, with a medieval castle perched above it on a hill providing great views of the surrounding mountains.

Extractions: Kladiusz Wesolek DRIVING THROUGH THE BALTICS Submit a Tale here More Tales It was a very fine adventure. I came to Wilno (Vilnius) with my brother by train. Then I get to the hostel on Filaretai Street. The hostel was without luxuries (like all hostels) but very clean and nice. The owner was very helpful and friendly. There were a lot of international tourists from many countries (among them quite a lot of Japanese!). Wilno is a very interesting city with a lot of wonderful architecture. We admired old churches and other old buildings. But as a city it is rather "dead". There are some foreign tourists but not too much. There is quite a lot of little cafes and restaurants and most of them are rather empty. Shops are like they were during communist times - dirty - and saleswomen ignore customers. And generally, I still feel there a "breath of comrade Stalin". Lithuania made some changes at the beginning of 90s but then they stopped. After visiting the city we were drinking beer under the Monument of Gedyminas (Great Duke of Lithuania, grandfather of Polish King Jagiello) but the police kicked us out. In Warsaw it is normal that people drink beer near the column of King Zygmunt III, but Lithuanians have a more byzantic approach to monuments.....

The beautiful Poleski National Park to the north west of the region lies partly in the Leczna-Wlodawa Lake District. Several dozen lakes big and small have been preserved in their natural state offering both recreational opportunities and spectacular views. PAPHE: Conferences 1946) and the Children´s castle (1948), an Modern hospital planning in Sweden andother countries. the social and medical uses of architecture , Building and http://europaphe.aphp.org/en/c28.html
Extractions: Hospitals are an important part of Finnish national heritage. As public buildings they represent the development of Finland from a Swedish province to the Great Duchy of Russia and finally to an independent country. The hospitals, designed by famous architects, are monuments of architecture but they also reflect the history of medicine. In the end, when speaking about the conservation and architecture of modern hospitals we are discussing a serious subject. The modern Finnish hospitals mentioned above are still in operation and new technology sets challenges to them. Therefore there are certain risks of too massive redevelopment. Plain modern architecture is known to be very sensitive to alteration. When original details are changed too drastically, the architectural value of building can disappear and we lose architectural monuments as well as a part of the history of public health.

Professor Stanford Professor Stanford Professor Stanford: I do not want to give the Minister any trouble about this section. It is an excellent Bill and we want it to go through quickly, but it seems to me that, though this section has been introduced rather reluctantly, it is a very good section. We may have sections of this kind in future Bills and I suggest the Minister and his colleagues should think ahead along these lines. It will not be quite satisfactory simply to say that the Institute's architect will think out a good design and that will be that. There are pretty deep aesthetic problems involved in this, and it is very much for the good of the country that they should seriously and fully be faced. I would remind the Minister and the Government that in the original Government of this country, we had a Minister for Fine Arts. I wonder if the time is not coming round when we need a Minister for Fine Arts again. At any rate, I should like to commend the Minister on having this section put in, however reluctantly.
