American community colleges provide personalized caring, community, and quality opportunity. Students can feel at home in a personalized, caring environment that offers a guiding hand. Whether from across the street or across the globe, students realize dreams at American community colleges. Community colleges (sometimes called "junior colleges") offer both academic transfer programs and career technology training. Often, a community college can provide an international student more personal and individual attention than a university is able. Community colleges proudly say they put students first, treat each student individually, and provide quality opportunities. Community colleges provide high quality transfer programs for students seeking degrees from the best colleges and universities. Their success story is clear and continually confirmed. On average, students beginning at a community college perform as well or better in universities than students who begin their careers at those same institutions. Additionally, community colleges offer two-year career and technical education degrees and certificate programs of varying scope. According to Jim Rizzuto, President of Otero Junior College, "Students will find many community colleges on the cutting edge of technology. At OJC we're committed to preparing our students with the IT skills and experiences employers need."

Extractions: Stepping Up Nursing: Back to Health DisCOVER letters Math Skills... ... OCC Home JUSTICE for All by Laura Lyjak Do you have a desire to help people? Do you want to make a difference in the world? If so, you may want to consider a career in law enforcement. Yes, law enforcement. Many positions in law enforcement require physical stamina, a clean background and a high tolerance for stress. But after that, the field is wide open to a long list of special talents so diverse almost anyone can find a niche. Think about it this way: If youre a whiz at computing or accounting, the FBI might be interested in you. If you like kids, becoming a juvenile officer may give you the opportunity to make a difference in a young persons life. If you love horses, youre a perfect candidate for a mounted patrol. Park patrols and rangers spend most of their days out of doors. Options include academy, two- and four-year degrees There are three general methods of entry for those interested in a career in law enforcement. One is to enter a police academy. Another is to pursue an associate degree in criminal justice, then transfer into a four-year program. The third is to enter a bachelors program directly. Police academies can be affiliated with a particular police department or with academic institutions like a community college. The length of police academy training can vary from eight weeks to six months, but all states have minimum requirements.
