Alberta referred constitutional questions to the Court of Appeal to determine whether the licensing and registration provisions of the Firearms Act, as they relate to ordinary firearms, are intra vires Parliament. The majority of the Court of Appeal concluded that the Act is a valid exercise of Parliament's criminal law power. Alberta appealed to this Court.
