According to the e-mail, uncovered as a result of a Freedom of Information Act request by government watchdog Judicial Watch, the contract was "contingent on informing WH [White House] tomorrow. We anticipate no issues since action has been coordinated w[ith] VP's office." Three days later, Halliburton was awarded deal without the usual competitive bidding. Cheney served as CEO of Halliburton from 1995 to 2000. According to one official congressional report, he still receives about $150,000 a year in "deferred compensation" and holds over 433,000 stock options.
