The school is approximately 1½ hours drive south from the capital Bandar Seri Begwan. The nearest town to the school is Seria, which is located 5km to the north. The fathers of the children who attend the school at present are members of 1RGR. The Gurkha Childrens English School is located in the heart of the Gurkha Family Lines at Tuker Lines, Seria, within walking distance of the Family Lines. The Gurkha camp is nearby and the children all walk the short distance to school from their quarters. The various support units are based on a separate camp nearby. At present the school accommodates 125 pupils ranging form FS2 to Y6. There are five bi-lingual Nepali teachers who are recruited from Nepal including the Deputy Headteacher Mr Rajesh Thapa. There are two UKBC teachers including the Headteacher Mr Philip Brown. The staff are well supported by six Teacher Assistants who are also bi-lingual. There are two caretakers who also work at the nearby kindergarten. The school has three main blocks containing spacious classrooms, a large Main Hall, well-equipped Science and Home-Science laboratories, and a computer room with a network of computers all linked to the internet by broadband. There is an art and craft room and a well-stocked library among other rooms. It also has a large grassy football field and two basketball pitches. In 1979, both countries signed a treaty of friendship and co-operation, paving the way for full independence in 1984. Membership of the UN, the British Commonwealth, ASEAN, and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) quickly followed.
