Extractions: ZUMBROTA COVERED BRIDGE Minnesota's last remaining covered bridge, the Zumbrota Covered Bridge, is located in Zumbrota, Minnesota in Goodhue County. In 1869, the Stafford Western Emigration Company contracted a member of their organization to construct the bridge. On its original location the bridge channeled the stage coach traffic between Dubuque, Iowa and St. Paul through the small village of Zumbrota. The bridge was constructed at a cost of $5,800 by a local carpenter using the town lattice truss design. As initially constructed, the bridge was built with white-pine timbers used for the structural supports and the floor, and the planks were pinned together with turned white-oak dowels. The dowels were soaked in linseed oil and coated with a red iron oxide in order to preserve them from the elements.

Extractions: In the Friends of the Wissahickon's account of the Trails' Master Plan, 1995, their historical research discovered evidence that the Wissahickon Valley's mills were a part of the region's first economic activity. "Although certainly not comparable to a modern industrial site, it appears that the Wissahickon Valley may be viewed as the first reclaimed "industrial" area in the United States, another significant aspect of its history." The remaining architecturally historical resources of the Valley that survived the demolition of most mills and resort hotels and road houses include: Wissahickon Hall Once a tavern for resort visitors in the 18th Century, this building is now used as a barracks for park police. The era of prohibition brought economic ruin to this resort hotspot which stands, along with the Valley Green Inn, as the remaining monuments to that exciting era in Wissahickon history. Hermitage Estate Located at the top of the hill, on the left of Hermit's Lane, this mansion marks the site of the "Tabernacle of the Mystic Brotherhood," a religious sect who were exiled from Germany as religious outcasts. Erected in 1695-96, founder John Kelpius, of Kelpius Cave fame, was the first to use "Rocks-Burrow" in a letter dated May 25, 1706.
