Extractions: 3 day Masai Mara Safari In northern region of Kenya lies a small oasis, the Samburu Game Reserve. The park is relatively small, covering an area of only 104 square km on the northern bank of Uaso Nyiro river with interesting landscapes of rounded and rugged hills and vast plains. The Samburu Game Reserve extends for an area of 105 sq km north of the meandering Ewaso Nyiro or Brown River. It forms part of a lava plain that includes a landscape of red dirt, thorn scrub, broken volcanic rock, dried river beds, steep hills and rocky outcroppings, some large enough to be called mesas. Enjoy interesting drives or walks outside the reserve or visit a local Samburu tribal village which can be a fascinating experience. There are over 350 varieties of birds. These include the famous Somali Ostriches, Kingfishers, Humming Birds, Eagles, Guinea Fowls and Vultures. The lodge has three Landcruisers which can seat 7 people each. Game drives across the plains of the Samburu Game Reserve and along the Uaso Nyiro river are scheduled daily. Distinctive hills and mountains characterize the area surrounding the Uaso Nyiro River. Nestled in the mysterious riverine forest are several beautiful lodges. Campsites are available as well.
