Lesson Plans The following lesson plans were developed for the Delaware black history Project. These lesson plans are separated to coincide with each unit. http://www.udel.edu/BlackHistory/listoflessons.html
Extractions: Howard Career Center The following lesson plans were developed for the Delaware Black History Project. These lesson plans are separated to coincide with each unit. They are, by no means, exhaustive. Because each individual who teaches these units has his or her own instructional methods, these lesson plans are to be used as a guide for the instructor. Each plan shares certain commonalities. Students should begin each unit by reading the material prepared by the authors. This serves as an introduction to the topic for the students. Furthermore, students are asked to define key terms and concepts. They are directed to primary source material. They are encouraged to analyze applicable charts, graphs, and maps. Lastly, critical thinking questions are included, along with research topics to be developed. The critical thinking questions are designed to measure the student's mastery of the topic. Although there is no day-to-day format for the implementation of these lesson plans, the various resources and activities presented are conducive to the development of two to three 45-minute class periods. Extractions: Oral interviews can be a significant source of historical insights. Since the 16th century, immigration has played a major role in the United States. In addition to being, except for Native Americans, a country of immigrants, the United States is also now remarkable for the frequency with which people move around the country, from region to region. Brainstorm with students to determine where the class can find people who have immigrated to your town or area from another part of the country or from another part of the world for improved economic and social conditions. You and students may come up with the following suggestions: Once students find out whom they will be interviewing, they should do research on the place the subject comes from so that they may understand more readily why the person chose to move away.
