Extractions: This course is primarily intended for students wishing to pursue a career in Clinical Engineering (CE). Students of this course will have the opportunity to acquire basic experience, knowledge and confidence necessary to perform effectively upon entry in the CE field. To this extent these aims can only be obtained through exposure to the actual working environment of a hospital. The course will involve a rotation through each of the various activities of the Clinical Engineering Department, subject to the departmental workload at the time. The student will be expected to participate fully in the day-to-day activities. This course is offered by the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBME), UNB in co-operation with the Saint John Regional Hospital in Saint John and the Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation. The operation of the course is the joint responsibility of the Director of Clinical Engineering at the Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) and a Project Engineer of the IBME. While in the hospital, students are subject to all applicable hospital rules and regulations and are under the direct supervision of the Director of Clinical Engineering of SJRH. NOTE: Due to the limited space at the SJRH, no more than ONE student can be enrolled in the program in any one academic year.
