But he began attending classes earlier this month and joined Baylor's off-season workout program Monday. New Baylor coach Scott Drew said Thursday that the NCAA had cleared Herring, who is attending school on a basketball scholarship this year. Herring was not immediately available for comment. A university investigative committee has said it found evidence that former coach Dave Bliss arranged illicit tuition payments to slain player Patrick Dennehy and another player and then tried to cover it up. The committee has not identified the other player. Herring's former high school coach, Jim Palano of Buffalo, told

Long troubled by knee problems, she grew frustrated with her inability to train hard. "Mentally, I was shot," she remembers. "Every time I worked hard and put something toward it, something happened. I got hurt and injured. I was in a knee brace." At the Big 8 Conference indoor meet in Lawrence, Kansas, she decided the time had come. Still lacking a qualifier for the NCAA Indoor, she took off the knee brace. "I just decided on my own I wasn't going to wear it," she says. She won the high jump competition, leaping 6-2.75, to fly to the top of the collegiate list that winter. "That's really memorable to me." Not much matched that moment for Teaberry-Lindsey until she made the Olympic team last summer. At the Trials, she first tied her old best of 6-3.5. If she stopped there, she would go home in fourth place. Officials raised the bar to 6-4.75. She missed twice, as did Karol Jenkins, her friend and adversary for the last team spot. On the third and last attempt, Jenkins missed, but she cleared.

Before 1992, baseball had often been seen in various exhibition and demonstration games throughout modern Olympic history. In time, baseball became so popular that it was scheduled to become an official sport at the 1940 Olympic Games in Japan. However, due to World War II, the Games were canceled and baseball was overlooked as an official Olympic sport for the next 52 years. The Olympic Committee formally decided baseball would be an official sport in 1992.

Extractions: September 2002 Upon Further Review Coaching Resume "Irregularities" Force Closer Look, Locals Not Immune By John E. Sacco Relying on the honesty and integrity of a new coach or athletic administrator is not good enough anymore for universities and colleges across the nation. The embarrassment of finding out that a school's new coach or athletic director isn't what he or she said they were can be overwhelming and bewildering. Within days of being hired as Notre Dame's football coach, George O'Leary admitted he had lied on his resume. He never lettered in football at New Hampshire as he claimed, and he did not earn a master's degree from New York University. The former Georgia Tech coach was disgraced, as was the Fighting Irish's process in hiring him. Tyrone Willingham, who is perceived nationally to be an honorable man who ran a clean and quality program at Stanford was brought in to restore order. Had it not happened at Notre Dame, it is unlikely the matter would have received the national attention it did. But it brought the issue of simple clerical errors, half-truths and long-forgotten lies on resumes to light and within weeks inaccuracies were found in biographical information of coaches in Division I football and basketball across the country.

The summer camps will reveal a host of names to follow going into the fall with. Emeka Okafor has eliminated T-Tech while it appears that KU's interest has cooled. Apparently KU coaches have looked at Chris Charles , Seton Hall commitment but unclear whether they are actually serious. So who is KU still interested in for this year's recruiting class? Apparently a PF/C prospect from the Houston area -
