Previously, he worked at the University of Iowa, first as graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach for football before being promoted to assistant. A 1994 graduate of Southern Connecticut with a bachelor's degree in exercise science, Miller worked at Yale University as an assistant strength and conditioning coach from 1994-97. He directly supervised athletes in field hockey, gymnastics, lacrosse and baseball and assisted with the training for football, men's and women's basketball as well as men's hockey. From there, he held a graduate assistant's position at the University of Utah from 1997-99. He directed the training for women's soccer in addition to men's and women's swimming and diving and also designed individual programs for athletes in football and men's basketball. In 1995, Miller became a National Strength Coaches Association certified strength and conditioning specialist.

In addition to directing The Golden Wave, Dr. Kraus conducts the Symphonic Band, teaches undergraduate conducting, and oversees student teachers in music education. Prior to his appointment at Baylor, Dr. Kraus taught at the University of Texas at Austin where he was the Assistant Director of the Longhorn Band and Director of the Longhorn Basketball Band. Most recently, Dr. Kraus completed doctoral coursework in Music Education at Arizona State University where he also served as a Graduate Assistant for the Sun Devil Marching Band, Wind Symphony, Chamber Winds, and Concert Band. A native of the Bronx, N.Y. and one of only a handful of coaches in NCAA history to serve as a Head Coach on all three levels of NCAA play, he came to UNCW after serving as General Manager for the Suwanee (Ga.) Sports Academy, the largest private basketball training, competition and event facility in the Southeast. A 1966 graduate of Archbishop Molloy High School in New York City, Thurston was an All-City performer in both basketball and baseball. He led the Stanners to a then national record 69 consecutive victories and four straight city baseball hampionships. He was named the schools most outstanding student athlete and was selected in the sixth round of the Professional Baseball draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Thurston, a letterwinner in both basketball and baseball graduated from Seton Hall in 1970 where he was named the John F. Kennedy Award for the Universitys outstanding student athlete.
